Chapter ten
Everyone was having fun. Keaton had turned music on and was dancing around with Madison, occasionally having a slow dance with my mother or father.
Amanda and I sat close to the windows chatting, but a familiar face had me worried. Keaton's mother.
She storms past the window, not even sparing a glance before going to the door and opening it.
Keaton looks up and meets her eyes, the air suddenly feels tight. "Mom."
"Keaton," She greets. "Who are these people your so comfortable with, other than Amanda and Madison." She turns to me. "And it's here."
"Don't call him it, mother." Keaton growls. "He's my boyfriend and you will treat him like a human being!"
"Gays aren't humans!" She shouts. "I thought college would turn you straight! What happened to being a nurse?"
"You know I hated the thought of being nurse! You know I can't handle blood. What did you come her for?"
"You fucking excuse of a son, you invited me!"
Keaton grabs Madison close. "Have you no respect? There's a child here!"
His mother hastily walks to Madison and jerks her away. "Don't ever touch this child! Your hands are filth!"
Keaton drops his hands and his eyes widened. His eyes start to water and I intervene. Grabbing Keaton, I tuck him into my side before looking at his mother. "Listen, I'm sure Keaton didn't invite you here for a fight, I'm sure he wanted to talk to you."
She doesn't respond, but she clutches Madison hand tightly, making Madison cry out and her lip tremble.
"Mom!" Amanda snapped.
But it was too late, Keaton had pushed from me and snatched Madison picking her up and examining her hand before turning back to his mother growling. "How dare you! Don't you ever take your anger out on a child! Let alone Madison!"
Keaton's mother is out raged. "AMANDA! YOU'RE GOING TO LET HIM TOUCH HER?!"
Amanda steps next to Keaton and wraps a arm around his neck. "He's my brother! I'd love him even if he had two heads! Besides! You're making a scene! Today was peaceful before the bull charged in!"
Madison cries into Keaton's chest. I smile to myself as I watch Keaton comfort her with the promise of sweets.
"You all make me seem like the bad guy." His mother snorts.
Keaton takes a deep breath."Alright. Mom, we are going to do this the Adult way. You go first, what do you have to say?"
I glance at my parents who look concerned.
"I wanted to drop by and tell you, I'm disowning you. Find a new last name, mine is no longer welcome to you. You're a failure as a son and I regret not taking your fathers advice to abort you. Everyday you walk on this earth you waste air that people worth something need,"
I go to stop her but Keaton stops me.
She continues. "You're the scum of the earth, a weight of society, the mud on my shoes. It makes me sad that you chose to be a fag, that you would rather take it up the ass and be childless than have a nice woman and children. Do you want to be alone for the rest of your life? The day you die is the day I will party. Go to hell."
A sniffle echoes in the bakery. Keaton presses his face into Madison's hair. He's trying to hide the fact that he's crying, but he's shaking.
"MOTHER!" Amanda screams. "GET OUT! GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE! If you disown Keaton, you disown me!"
