“Okay,” Sabrina says, snapping me out of…whatever that was. “Ally gets the guest room. Eli, if it’s alright with you, you’re gonna be sharing Dez’s room.” Eli nods enthusiastically and raises his hand, which Dez slaps.

“Which way is the guest room?” I ask. This new shyness seems to be increasing by the second, and I just want to get out of this room as fast as possible. Sabrina grabs my arm and pulls me away, leaving the boys behind.

“Don’t die! It's bad for your health!” she calls over her shoulder. I furrow my eyebrows.

“Um…are they really capable of…killing themselves?” I question anxiously. I don’t want to find out that I’ve left my brother with a couple of psychopaths… Sabrina just laughs and shakes her head.

“No, Ally, I’m kidding. Don’t worry.” Still slightly uneasy, I follow her down the hallway. After a minute, after the sound of voices has died down, she opens a door to the left.

My eyes widen as we enter the room. The walls are painted deep crimson, a huge window lets in a ton of light, even a balcony, and I can see what feels like the entire city.

I’m in such awe, I’m speechless. Sabrina, however, takes this to mean I don’t like it.

“Sorry about the color", she apologizes, pointing to the walls. “With all of the light from the window, it’s a little bright, I know. I can close the shades if you-“

“No,” I interrupt. “This is perfect.” It is. If I could, I would just stare at Miami forever. The city line, the beaches way off in the distance. The lights. That’s the best part. I’ve never seen so many, and it’s only early evening, so I bet this isn’t even all that will be on in later hours.

Sabrina relaxes when she sees I’m content with the room, and closes the door.

“Okay,” she begins matter-of-factly. “Austin.” I stare at her blankly.

“What about him?” Sabrina shakes her head. “Oh Ally. You’re hopeless.” I frown, but I’m not exactly offended, just very confused. “I’ll start really basic. Since you obviously have no experience with this type of thing whatsoever,” she says. “When you first met Austin, how did you feel? I noticed you got a little shy, and I’m thinking you might have felt a little different than what you’re used to, like a-“

Now I know exactly what she’s talking about.

“Sabrina,” I cut off. “I’m not an idiot, I can read. I know what a crush is.”

“Yeah, now you do.”

“What’s that supposed to mean? Ugh, never mind. Anyways, I know what a crush is; I’ve just never had one before.”

“Until now.”

“Stop making no sense!” I exclaim, a little louder than I meant to. I clap my hand over my mouth. “Oops. I didn’t mean to shout. But I’m serious.”

“Oh daaarilng,” Sabrina says, mocking a British accent. “Let me help you put the pieces together. You like Austin!”

“I do?”

“Yes, you do!” she squeals.

“Are you sure?” I ask. “How do you know?”

“Because I do. Don’t question it.” I sit myself down on the bed and stare out the window.

“So…what do I do?”

“Don’t worry, I’ll help you,” Sabrina assures. “For now…just get to know him.”

“Right now?” I question, slightly panicked. I don’t know how I’m supposed to act!

“Hm. Wait a day or so. We need to give you some time to settle in first. For the time being, let’s get all of your stuff from the car.” I nod, relieved.

“Okay, I’ll be out in a few minutes.” As soon as she’s gone, I take out my guitar and strum it lightly, singing softly along with the chords.

Then the door creaks opened a crack, and I stop short.

I can see his hazel eyes through the crack, and I catch my breath.

I don’t move, and neither does he. Finally, I have to exhale.

“Hi,” I whisper. He opens the door a little more.

“Sorry to interrupt you. I just-uh, I mean you, um…you sound good,” he eventually manages to sputter. I’m not paying any attention to how many times he falters, though.

It’s like when I first saw the view, and I was speechless. Except I’m not looking at the view. All I see is Austin.

“Yeah,” I say absently. “I mean, thank you! Sorry,” I cover, coming back to my senses. I put the guitar down and stand up. “I’ll just…you know…my bags!” I blurt out as I run past him out to the car.

Idiot! I scold myself. Why, Ally?! Why couldn’t you have just talked to him?

I nearly crash into Sabrina outside, who is already unloading the trunk.

“Ah! Ally, watch out next time!” She’s irritated at first, but when she notices my expression, she puts down the luggage, and her face softens. “What’s wrong?”

“I…am…humiliated!” I moan, leaning against the car.

“Oh…Ally, I told you to wait a day until you talk to him! You don’t know what to do yet!”

“I didn’t do it on purpose! He came into my room first!” I argue.

“Really? Why? What’d he want?” she asks rapidly.

“He…I guess he was complimenting me on my guitar playing?  That’s what it sounded like, but he was being weird…or I was being weird…ugh!”

“Well that makes sense. I told you he’s into music.” I shrug.

“I guess that’s why. But I couldn’t even get a full sentence out! He probably thinks I’m a total airhead! A girl from the wild!” I exclaim.

“You know how ridiculous you sound right now, right? Believe me, growing up with Austin, he can act like an even bigger airhead. Don’t worry so much.” I shake my head.

How, I wonder, does this boy manage to steal my words, strike me speechless, just by being in the same room? How is it that I’ve only known him for half an hour, but he’s already managed to steal my heart?
