It was Saturday evening. 7:00pm. I was going on my first date - ever - with Cameron Moore. What was I going to wear? What was I going to say? Where were we going? I had no idea. I was nervous and excited at the same time. Why did Cameron just have to be so charming? My thoughts were disturbed by a knock on my door. Dad came in.

"Your date called, he said he'd be picking you up early. Be ready in thirty minutes."

"What? No! I don't even know what to wear!" I threw my arms up in the air.

"Call Sara." dad suggested and walked away. Sara! Why didn't I think of calling Sara?

I grabbed my phone and dialed Sara's number. Sara picked up.

"Hello?" I heard her quiet voice say into the phone.

"Sara, I need your help. Please come to my house in less than ten minutes. Thanks." I said and hung up before she could say no.

In less than ten minutes, Sara was at my door. I ran downstairs, trying to beat dad to the door. I was too late. Dad opened the door and welcomed Sara in.

"Sara," I said and ran to the door, "I need your help." I pulled Sara up to my room.

"Help me pick out something to wear on my date with Cameron." I opened my closet so Sara could see all of my clothes.

"Wait, who? Cameron? As in Cameron Moore? I thought you didn't like him." Sara grinned at me.

"I know, I know, and I didn't. But now- I don't know. I can't explain it." I replied.

"Whatever. Wear this dress. It looks good on you." Sara handed me a red dress.

"Okay, thanks! Now, leave. You can't be here when Cameron gets here." I said, shoving Sara out the door.

"Have fun." Sara said before I shut the door.

A few minutes later, Cameron knocked on the door. Dad just had to answer the door and embarrass me.

"You must be Cameron, correct?" dad said.

"Yes, Sir. Thank you for letting me take your daughter to dinner." Cameron replied, smiling.

"Have Jennette back by ten. Treat her right, or I'll be paying your house a little visit. Are we clear?" dad said, as if to scare Cameron off.

"Yes, Sir. I'll have her back by nine thirty, sharp." Cameron replied, acting like he wasn't at all intimidated by my dad. Maybe he wasn't acting, maybe he really wasn't intimidated by him. I thought now would be the right time to come to the door. Before I walked out with Cameron, I kissed dad on the cheek.

"Bye, I love you." I said before closing the door behind me. Cameron hooked arms with me, again, and we went to his car. His mom was driving. Cameron introduced us, and Mrs. Moore acted as if she had known me forever.

"Hello, Jennette." Mrs. Moore said as I sat beside Cameron.

"Hi, Mrs. Moore. How are you?" I replied.

"I'm blessed, how are you?" she said. I'm blessed? I don't know, but that sounded pretty religious to me. Was Cameron a Christian?

"Oh, um, I'm good. Thanks for asking." I slouched down in my seat. Cameron laughed.

"Jennette, is this your first date? Your dad seemed pretty strict about this. I love parents who are like that, their children will grow up knowing right from wrong." Cameron said.

"As a matter of fact, it is. But my dad has always been worried about guys treating me wrong." I replied.

"I would never treat you wrong." Cameron said, acting like we were boyfriend and girlfriend.

"You better not, my dad has a shotgun!" I said and laughed, Cameron joining in on my laughter.

Cameron didn't look at me once. For the whole ride, he just stared at the seat in front of him. Why did he do that? He must get distracted a lot. Cameron's mom drove to that fancy restaurant my dad and I went to, Paula's. I picked the same table dad and I always sat at.

"So, why does your mother drive you and your date? Can't you get a driver or something?" I asked Cameron as we sat down. He laughed.

"Actually, you're my first date. I didn't think it would be a crime if my mother drove us. We can get a driver on the way back." he replied.

"No, it's fine. You're mom's nice, and a driver is probably really expensive." I said. Once again, Cameron laughed.

"My family is very wealthy, I have enough money. Otherwise, I wouldn't have asked you on a dinner date." just then the lady that served dad and I last time came to our table.

"You served my dad and I last time we were here. How are you?" I said to the lady. Her smile always looked fake.

"Right now I'm kind of tired, and really stressed out. Thanks for asking. So, what can I get for you two?" she replied, again, putting on a fake smile.

"We'll have two cokes." Cameron answered for both of us and smiled at the woman. Cameron's smile could cheer anyone up, really. The lady hurried away into the kitchen.

"If you don't want to, you don't have to get a driver. Really, Cameron. It's our first date, we need a chaperone." I said and smiled. Cameron smiled back. He was already smiling, but still.

"If you say so. Let me know if you change your mind." he replied. The waitress came back with our cokes and took our food orders, then hurried back off into the kitchen.

When it was nine fifteen, Cameron put a bill on the table and we got up to leave. Before I left the table, I put a five dollar bill on the table. Maybe all she needed was money. Maybe that's why that woman was always so stressed. She looked like she hated that job, so maybe she was poor and needed the money.

I caught up to Cameron, who seemed to walk very fast, and we got in his mother's car.

"Mom, I told Jennette's father I would have her home by nine thirty. I don't want to go a minute over that time." Cameron told his mother and smiled, again. Why was he such a happy person was the only question I had to ask about Cameron Moore.
