Fifteen minutes after Cameron left, dad came home.
"Dad, I made you a cup of coffee." I said and rushed off to the kitchen. I came back and handed dad a cup filled with coffee.
"Thank you, sweetheart. Let me get ready, and we can go to the foster home." dad said and went to his room. I was going to tell him about when I took that money from him, and I was going to tell him that Cameron came over. Later, I was going to tell dad that I am now a Christian and encourage him to become one, too. I was nervous, but I knew I could calm down. After all, I had God in my life now.
When dad and I got to the foster home, we looked at each other with nervous looks, then walked in. We heard a bell go ding when we walked in. The place was filled with a sweet aroma of febreeze air freshener. We saw a woman at the counter and walked over to her. Dad asked her about adopting children. I saw Sara walk in and I went over to her.
"Hey." I said.
"Did you see them yet?" Sara asked.
"We say if we want a male or female and what age we want, and they bring out a kid. If we want the one they bring out, we have to sign papers and go through all that stuff. If we don't want that one they bring out another kid. It works different than the ones we grew up with." I replied.
"I see. Your dad is motioning you over." she said. I went back over to dad. They brought out a teen boy, he was fourteen. He looked well kept. He wore a dark blue shirt with blue jeans and black converse shoes.
"Hi, I'm John." he said, with a friendly smile. He didn't seem shy at all.
"Hello, John, I'm Andrew Morgan." dad replied and shook his hand.
"It's nice to meet you, John! I'm Jennette!" I smiled and shook his hand.
"It's nice to meet you both! Are you adopting me?" he asked with hopeful eyes. Dad and I looked at each other. I nodded. Dad smiled in agreement.
"If that's okay with you, yes." dad told him. John grinned and hugged dad like he had known him his whole life.
"Sign these papers, and you can take John home." the lady at the counter said.
"You already did the meetings and everything?" I whispered to dad.
"Yes." dad whispered back. Dad grabbed the pen and signed the papers. Then the adoption was complete, John was officially a Morgan! Sara came over to us to introduce herself.
"Hi, John. I'm Jennette's best friend, Sara. It's nice to meet you!" she said and shook John's hand.
"Hi, Sara. It's nice to meet you, too." John replied.
"Well, I guess I'll see you later. Bye, Jennette, Mr. Morgan." Sara said. She smiled then went back outside and got in her dad's van. Dad thanked the lady at the counter, then put his arm around John. We all went outside and got in dad's car. I sat in the back seat with John, and we got to know each other a little bit. He seemed to fit right in with the Morgan family.
