Chapter 31

"What are you doing here Dennis?" Jacob sneers at him as everyone moves towards the back of the church. I look where Dennis is standing and see a few people. I don't even know these people, I think to myself as I observe the unfamiliar faces.

"Oh, are you looking for people you know?" Dennis asks, turning his attention to me. He smiles smugly at me, for what, I do not know. "Well its only fair that you know." Just then someone steps up and to be honest I'm not surprised.

Anna.

"Why Anna? What did I ever do to you?" I yell at her as she plays with a gun I didn't notice she was holding.

"Oh directly? Nothing, but you did steal him." She says pointing the gun in the guys' direction. "Jacob was supposed to fall in love with me. I was so close, with getting him to asking me out, but then all of a sudden he's so infatuated with you! You ruined everything!"

Seriously? This girl wants to get revenge on me because of a guy?

"Anna-" I cut Jacob off, knowing if he says something wrong now, she will explode. "Then what was with you playing Jen?" I ask her, still not understanding what she was trying to accomplish.

"Well thats easy. I was going to first get on the good side with Jen, since I knew there was no hope with you. Then I was going to slowly move closer to Jacob and eventually he'd realise that we're made for each other." She sighs out happily, as if what she just said was so simple, so easy.

"Enough of the teen drama. I warned you Tori. I told you I was coming for you. You left me, betrayed me. How could you? I treated you so well, I never shared you. You're such an ungrateful little brat!" He yells as he begins to pull on his hair tightly. "You brought them back! They left but when you left they came back! It's all your fault Tori!" He yelled as he clutched his head harder, pulling hair from his scalp in the process.

"What are you-"

"Oh could we stop this, please. Hello boys, so good to see the sons that betrayed me." Mr. Reinfield says, stepping up from the back. He has a cold scowl on his face as he glares at his son's.

"I had such high hopes for you Elijah, but you threw it all away. I did everything for you and yet you dump me like yesterdays trash, just because she came back. I hate you, you are no son of mine. Just a worthless piece of shit. A faggot, is what you are, especially with that thing you claim to love." He sneers at Ellie. Elijah doesn't flinch at his cold words but instead glares right back.

"Don't you dare speak about my sister, my family, my boyfriend that way. They were much more a family than you, all you wanted was money, that's the only reason you kept me around!" Mom walks behind Ellie and places her hand on his shoulder. He turns to face her and smiles gently at her.

"Could everyone please just stop talking! I just want to finish this so I can be done with it all!" Dennis suddenly yells as he pulls out a gun. Everyone suddenly freezes as he starts pointing to random people and making fake gun noises.

My breath hitches as it moves to Clarkson, then to Darron and finally to me. "Dennis wait. You haven't given them their present." Anna says suddenly. My stomach drops as she winks at me and I begin to think of what that surprise could be.

"Oh yes, how could I forget?" He says chuckling. He calls for someone and they bring another person to the front. The person's hands are tied behind their backs and there's a sack over their head.

"Say hello Jennifer."

The bag is suddenly pulled off of her head and it is, indeed Jen. "Jen!" I yell out to her. Her head snaps up and lock on me, she begins to tear up while thrashing, trying to get out of Dennis' grip.

"Well Tori, I have a deal for you. You could give yourself up and let us take you, and in return no one will be hurt, all of them will be safe. Can't say the same for you though." He chuckles as he runs the gun down Jen's face, still looking at me.

I look around me and see panic and fear on everyones faces. I turn to my brother and friends. I nod my head at them and they immediately shake their heads no.

"Okay." I say, not wanting anyone to get hurt because of me. "Great! Well come on! I dont want to be here forever." He says as he pushes Jen forward.

She falls to the floor and lands on her side. I run over to her and untie her. I help her stand up and try to make her walk to everyone else but her grip on my hand tightens. "Please Tori, you don't have to do this." She whispers, pleadingly to me. I smile softly at her and just give her a tight hug.

I push her to everyone and walk closer to Dennis. Every step I take I feel the fear building in the pit of my stomach. "Let everyone go Dennis." He looks thoughtful for a moment but nods eventually. "Fine they can go." I breath out a sigh of relief as they make way for everyone to leave through.

Most of the guests run out, leaving the church but as I look behind me, everyone's still there. My family is still here. "Guys please go." I say to them, hoping they'll listen. They don't even budge, they just stay standing where they are. Even Bethany and Jeffery are still here.

"Well if they don't want to leave then they can just watch the show." Dennis says as he makes me get down on my knees. For a second I think he's going to use me again but instead he aims the gun at my head.

He tells everyone to go outside and wait for him except for Anna and Mr. Reinfield. I let a few tears fall as I hear a click.

You never really do think about dying. Here's the sad truth, all of us will die. There's only three things no one knows about when they die.

When will you die?

How will you die?

Where will you die?

They say your life flashes before your eyes just as you're about to die and thats how it felt to me, though for me it was different. I saw the flashes, saw the good times and the bad. I saw flashes of my friends and family, but the only difference is that I didn't die.

Just as he pulled the trigger I was pushed out the way when I heard the bang.

Everything from then on went in slow motion. I fell to the ground with the other person on top of me. I heard sirens in the back round and shouting all around me. I saw everyone run towards Dennis, Anna and Mr. Reinfield as they were distracted.

I felt the body roll of of me. I checked my body but didn't see any injuries. Though I wish it was me. I turned my head and saw who my saviour was.

"Elli!" I looked down at my brother, the one who took the bullet. I saw red by his abdomen and saw that he was losing a lot of blood.

"No, no, no Ellie! Please, please, you'll be okay Ellie. You cant leave me again, come on Ellie." By now I'm crying hysterically as I pull my brother's body close to mine. He's breathing heavily but he's still awake.

"I-I'm s-sorry Tori. I-I tried to k-keep the p-promise-"

"No! You're keeping the promise Ellie. Please I just got you back, please don't leave me again. I can't handle it, try Ellie, just stay awake." I touched his cheek as I saw him drifting in and out of consciousness.

"Y-You'll be f-fine w-without m-me. Y-You're a f-fighter r-remember. I-I l-love you T-Tori. Y-You're the best s-sister a-anyone could e-ever a-ask for..." His sentences trails off as his eyes close.

"E-Ellie?" I asked him as I tapped his cheek trying to get his eyes to open again. I saw the paramedics run in and rush over to us. "Ellie! Ellie! Ellie, wake up! Please!"

I don't feel someone pull me away, all I see is the paramedics taking my brothers body away. The final thing I see before blacking out is his arm falling limply to his side.
