CHAPTER 007
" party anthem "
To be completely honest, the things that Paul did for his best friend never failed to both amaze and scare him. The fact that he'd gladly bend over backwards for Theo had him constantly questioning his sanity.
He was left moody and musing while standing by the wall.
Smack dab in the middle of his field of vision was his beauty of a best friend. Theo and Mick 'Fish Lips' Jagger were giggling and flirting with each other on the dance floor.
Paul had no choice but to watch, jealously sipping whatever mystery drink that had been spiked well within the first four minutes of the party.
He'd succeeded in his plan of not having fun, that was for sure.
To be frank, it wasn't all that bad — he was playing the movie 'Finding Nemo' in his head.
"If it isn't my problematic fave."
Oh holy hell, Paul thought. Not this clown.
Sure enough, it was.
'This clown' went by the formal name of Richard Starkey. He thrived off of annoying people — namely Paul — with his taunts and wisecracks. He was the last thing Paul needed right now.
Be cool, McCartney. Play it cool.
Paul kept his eyes forward. "If it isn't the bane of my existence."
"Hey, if we're going to do this cute back-and-forth, love/hate thing, you're going to have to get better at banter."
"Oh, I guess I'll go get some advice from someone talented in this subject and, no, not you." the doe-eyed boy flatly replied.
Richard's jaw dropped. "Wow, yikes."
"Wow, drop dead."
And with that, Paul mustered up the willpower to get the hell away from Richard, Mick and Theo.
**
The kitchen was his sanctuary.
It was like God Himself had placed the stainless steel refrigerator inside Mick Jagger's home especially for Paul.
While he was making himself busy with whatever Chinese leftovers Mick (and whatever type of sea mammal his parents were) had forgotten to eat, the thudding of the bass flowing in from the other room was too loud to ignore.
