It was now nearing four o'clock. The seven marched through the cold forest. The sun was behind their backs now, and they were walking wherever they could, only in hopes of finding shelter for the night. Not one zombie has been spotted yet, although Maya was able to uncover a severed head from under a pile of leaf. The seven left that area immediately, afraid that they would be hunted down or chased.

The sun, although it shone brightly with no clouds to stop it, did not give much warmth. Autumn, especially when nearing winter, was a tough and cold season. It made the world beautiful, covering it in gold, yellow, red and many other colours, but the zombies were here and nobody had time to stop and appreciate the wonders of nature no more.

After a long time of walking and complaining, they finally found something new. A solid, dark, long piece of concrete that curved and weaved through the tree maze. They found an asphalt road. It was mainly straight, but as they looked to the left, they found that it turned behind some trees, then the road could not be seen anymore. To the right of the road, there was a dark tree tunnel, the tree leaf and branches acting as a roof and blocking out any source of light. It looked scary, especially that they swore they could see something moving inside, and dangerous. The left looked way more promising.

"I think we should follow the road." Suzzette offered. She had been through a lot today, same as Nicole. They had to operate their friend's arm, who was also on the edge of dying, and were now having to walk in complete shock with no stopping for what felt like hours. Holly was all shocked as well. Tears still welled in her eyes and some even fell before she could wipe them away. They all suggested to Borys that Holly should stay with Alex, be by his side for as long as she can whilst he's in this state, but Borys declined that. He kept on repeating that the seven, in complete form, must go and retrieve the cure. It didn't make sense, and still to most seemed like one big trap, but they still went, just to have the cure if it was really there.

"We can find shelter in some building, maybe, if the road leads to a town." Maya added. She looked really pale, and the highlighted the right side of her face as she spoke to the others. Her hair remained the silky long blonde it always was, despite the multiple times she ruffled it in stress or sadness.

"What if it doesn't?" Eugenio asked, raising his shoulders and looking all around.

"I wouldn't build a town out here, we're in the middle of nowhere!" He added, his voice raised this time. Now that he was here, he regretted calling these guys for help. If the Spitters hadn't attacked his and Jan's base, they would still be there, working on all their mechanisms and picking their freshly grown carrots and other fruit and vegetables they grew. Eugenio would still be sitting back in his garden chair, looking out around in the forest for any sign of possible food, zombies, or humans. Now he was stuck in a pack of people he barely knew, who he only met several times before, having to trust them with his life.

"Well, there's only one way to find out where the road leads to." Jan exclaimed, his voice surprisingly happy and cheerful, and he set off to the left. The others stood still for a while, admiring the fact that Jan, for once, was the happiest out of them all, which rarely ever happened. It was usually Holly or Nicole who were hyper and cheerful, and it was usually Jan who got annoyed by it. Then he'd tell them off and grumpily go back to what he was doing previously. Now he was leading the way, happily walking in front of everyone and humming along to some song.

When everyone finally got used to the unusual sight, they set off after him. It didn't take them long to reach the turn of the road, and they gladly followed it. The turn led to yet another, more sharp turn, and then they were free of the forest. They finally left the trees and clay, gooey, ground behind and stepped onto a more solid type of dirt. Of course, the road still weaved through the land. But the best thing they saw was far away.
