Chapter Three

I woke to the sound of Jude meowing, he was on my dresser in front of the window. He looked outside and meowed, but it sounded so sad. Part of me made me wonder if it was because he missed Heidi. I watched as he put a single paw on the window and meowed again. It was actually breaking my heart to hear him so sad, the worst part was I didn’t know what to do to make him feel better.

I got out of bed and walked over to where he was. I reached out and stroked his fur, “I’m sorry Jude. I bet you miss Heidi huh?” he turned his head, in the moonlight I saw tears run down his face. That was just so weird, could cats even cry? He turned back and looked out the window, I wish I knew what he was staring at or what was the cause of his sadness.

I went to the kitchen to heated up some milk for hot chocolate, it was what my mom always did for me when I was feeling sad. I made myself a cup as well, I went back to my bedroom and Jude was still in the same spot, still crying. I was going to have to call Heidi and ask her if that was normal, this is the first time I have ever seen this. I have heard about dogs crying for their owners but never cats.

I picked him off the dresser and took him to the kitchen, I placed him on the stool at the counter. I sat next to him and pushed the small bowl of hot chocolate in front of him. “Drink it will make you feel better.” I said to him before I took a sip of mine.

He looked at it for a moment before he started to lap up the hot chocolate. If it didn’t make him feel better, hopefully it will help him sleep. I reached for the cookie jar I kept on the counter and grabbed a cookie out. The best thing about my mom was even though two states separated us, she always sent me her famous chocolate chip pecan cookies.

I missed her and I know it broke her heart when I took the job out here in Los Angeles, instead of the one in San Antonio. It even broke her heart when I told her Karina also got a job there. She always loved Karina as a daughter, and to have her leave too sadden her, but she knew why Karina had to leave. She never had it easy at home and it was one of the reasons she was always at my house.

I bit into the cookie and Jude stopped to look at me. I broke off a chunk of cookie and gave it to him, he nibbled on the cookie. I sipped my hot chocolate as I watched him eat the cookie. He meowed at me, I chuckled and gave him another piece of cookie. “Pretty damn good cookie huh?” he meowed again before he went back to his hot chocolate. We ate another cookie and finished up our hot chocolate. “Come on Jude lets go back to bed,” he jumped off the stool and followed me back to my room. I got under the covers and Jude curled up right next to me. I stroked his back and listened to his soft purring.

I woke up and Jude was gone, I looked over to the window but he wasn’t there. I sat up in bed and stretched my arms. I heard Jude meow as he walked back into the room. He jumped back onto the bed and rubbed his head along my arm. “Well someone is feeling better,” he purred as he crawled into my lap and made himself comfortable. I chuckled as I scratched behind his ear, he moved his head to the other side for me to scratch. Yup hot chocolate and mom’s cookies always worked.

“Ok Jude as much as I would love to sit here and scratch you behind your ears, I have to get up and get ready for work.” He laid his head down on my lap and let out a sad meow. “Aw I’m sorry Jude but it’s just today and tomorrow, then we can hangout all weekend together.” His head picked up and meowed, “That’s more like it. now just let me get ready and I will make use breakfast.” Jude moved from my lap and laid down on the bed. I grabbed my clothes and went to shower.

When I came out of the bathroom Jude was still there waiting for me. “So shall we have the same thing as yesterday or shall I make us something different?” I asked as I put on my shoes, Jude watched me. that was one thing I noticed about him, he was very big on watching what I did. He really was a curious cat, we walked to the kitchen and I started on making us some breakfast.
