Crowded.
That was one word that would describe the building I worked at. The hallways were always filled with over excited workers; chatting animatedly as they walked by. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at their excitement; I could barely stand most of my co-workers, in fact, I only had 2 friends that worked here alongside me so I guess I couldn't complain. The majority of the people that worked here I just tolerated, I couldn't form an opinion on any of them because I had never conversed with them. I stuck with my friends and that was all I needed. I'd rather have a few friends who truly understood me than a bunch of friends I could barely trust and would be willing to stab you in the back at a moments notice. In this line of work you could never be too careful, back stabbers were around every corner.
"Razor!" Someone called me.
Spinning around, I saw a man bent over at the waist, trying to regain his breath. I waited patiently for him to stand up straight and tell me what he was shouting me for, although I was feeling pretty annoyed. I hadn't gotten much sleep last night and just wanted to go home and go to bed. I wasn't in the mood to talk to people today. Good luck to anyone who pisses me off today, I thought, they would most definitely need it.
"Yes?" I asked after a few moments passed, him still not saying anything.
"Sorry.. I've been running around everywhere looking for you," He told me, straightening up.
"Well, get on with it." I told him.
He visibly gulped, a smirk making its way onto my features as he took a hesitant step back. Everyone in this building feared me and I would be lying if I said that it didn't satisfy me knowing that small crucial detail. They wouldn't try to cross me, that was for sure.
"Blade wants to see you. He says he has a client for you." The man told me quickly, running a hand through his short brown hair, not meeting my eyes.
"Is he in his office?" I asked, perking up immediately at his words. Handling a new client always made my day.
"Yes."
"Okay, thank you." I smiled, walking away without another word.
Heading back down the corridor and over to the elevator, I reached it just in time for the doors to open, a few people walking out. Sliding in quickly, I pressed the number 7 that would take me to the top floor where Blade's office was situated.
Thankfully, there was no one else in the elevator with me. It seemed that everybody had left as soon as they saw me, whether they wanted to be on this floor or not. Of course, I didn't care either way. They always tried to make small talk with me and usually, I would be polite and reply but like I said before, I just wasn't in the mood for idle chit chat today.
Once the elevator stopped and the doors opened, I stepped out and headed in the direction of his office, speeding up when my eyes locked on the familiar mahogany door. I wanted to get on with this as quickly as possible, I was too tired to function today, something that was quite unusual for me. I normally get roughly 8 hours sleep, but for the past week I've been recovering from my trip to the USA, so the time zones had messed up my routine.
Stupid jet lag, I mentally cursed.
Sighing, I knocked on my boss's office door and walked in. The office was quite large but it only held the basics. The clear desk my boss sat behind was situated in the middle of the room, two black leather chairs either side. On the right hand side of the room were the many filing cabinets that held the names of every client we had handled here and a mini bar directly opposite. A mini bar that was always fully stocked, I should add. Blade loved his alcohol, especially when dealing with a tough case though he never got drunk. As a matter of fact, I couldn't recall one single moment where I had seen him completely drunk or even tipsy. He had to have total control.
