Chapter 19

Harry’s POV

Why would it bother me so much that she’s going out with someone else? It’s not like I’m her boyfriend.

Not yet anyways.

Piper’s POV

It’s like Riley has super hearing or something.

As soon as I close the door behind me she pops out of nowhere.

“What happened?” She asks getting a little too close for comfort.

“What do you mean ‘What happened’? We got dinner talked, joked around, then came back home.” I say walking past her to hang my coat on a hook.

“So it was a date!”

“It was not a date. We hung out with friends at a restaurant and got food,”

“But you talked, had a good time, and there was an equal amount of girls as there was guys. It was a date.”

“It was not a date,”

“It was,”

“Was not,”

“It totally was.” Riley said in the ‘end-of-discussion’ voice. “Seriously, when are you guys just going to grow a pair and admit you like each other?”

“We don’t like each other,” I say emphasizing each word.

“Maybe you don’t like him, but he defiantly likes you,”

“Riley, he flirts with every girl he meets, he doesn’t like me,”

“Why else would he stay with you in your bed, or drive you home, or go on a double date with you?”

“He’s just a friends,”

“Yeah, for now,” Riley says as if that’s the most obvious thing in the world.

“Whatever, I’m done with this conversation. I’m going to bed,” I walk past Riley and make my way into my room.

I change out of my dress and into a tank top and pajama shorts. I scrub the makeup off my face and brush my teeth.

I fall into bed thinking about what Riley said.

“Hey,” Aaron says to me when I meet him at the restaurant. He stands up to greet me and plant a kiss on my cheek.

“Hello,” I giggle and sit down across from him.

“How have you been?” He asks me.

“Good, but busy,” I reply.

*One delicious dinner later*

“This was really fun,” I say truthfully. Over the course of dinner, I had learned a lot about Aaron. We both had a brother, he liked pets but was afraid of snakes, he had been to Canada once, and he had fallen out of a golf cart once.

He was really nice and funny, but… I don’t think I like him ‘that way’.

“Yeah, except for when you wouldn’t stop laughing at me,” He smiled.

“You fault for telling me you got pantised as a child, and you boxers came down with the pants,” I started laughing just thinking about the story.

I yawn and realize how late it is.

“I’ve got to get to bed,” I say. “Good night, Aaron,”

He hesitantly leans down and I know what he’s doing but I don’t stop him. His lips come in contact with mine and it feels… wrong.  I don’t know what I expect to feel, but when his warm lips press to mine… I don’t like it.

I pull away quickly and look at the ground.

“Aaron,” I start and then pause, unsure of what to say. “I don’t really, like you, um, like that,”

“Oh,” Is all I hear him say.

“I think your really awesome and funny, but-,”

“Is there someone else?” He cuts me off.

“What? No,” I say my thoughts flickering to Harry.

“It’s okay, Riley. I understand,” He looks so sad that my heart breaks.

“I’m really sorry,” I whispers and he nods turning around to walk away. I let him go because I know I did the right thing for me.

I open the door to my apartment and walk in, collapsing on the couch.

God what an emotionally exhausting evening?

Oh, well time for the comforts of my bed.

***

Yay, Mondays are my favourite. Note the sarcasm.

I hate getting up early, and I really, really didn’t want to run into Aaron at school.

He said it was okay, but I know it will be super awkward at uni.

I managed to get about halfway through the day before seeing him, Riley, Sam, Lea and Aaron all sitting together at lunch.

I walk over to my friends, who don’t know about me and Aaron’s date, even Riley.

“Hey guys,” I say and give Aaron a hesitant smile. He returns it with a reassuring one of his own.

We all start eating our food in silence.

“So, what did you do this weekend?” Sam asks me.

“Um, nothing much. You know, hung out with some friends,” She nods, buying the vague lie. “What about you?”

My mind wanders a she talks about her weekend and the others join in the conversation. Aaron didn’t seem offended when I lied to Sam. Did he want me too? Does he care?

From: Harry- What up, chicken butt?

From: Piper- Rude. I’m in class now though so, I can’t talk.

From: Harry- Ha, like that can stop me.

I ignore his text and try and focus back on the Prof.

From: Harry- Oh, I just want to take you any where that you like.

From: Harry- We could go out any day any night.

From: Harry- Baby I'll take you there take you there

From: Harry- Baby, I’ll take you there, there

From: Piper- Who you stop texting me your own song lyrics?!

From: Harry- Ha, I win.

From: Piper- Your such and idiot.

From: Harry- But you love it.

From: Piper- Eh, not really

From: Harry- WHAT!? How could this be?

From: Piper- Gotta good, bye. Have a nice life. See you never. Bye.

From: Harry- WHAT?

From: Harry- WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

From: Harry- I’m so confused.

I laughed quietly at him and then put my phone away. Luckily, in university the professor is just there to teach and doesn’t care if you text, as long as you don’t disrupt the class.
