Chapter 4, Missing In The Moonlight

It was nothing.

Pure nothing.

And that was the scary part.

That meant Nina was missing, we were going crazy, or she was playing some sick joke on us that we definitely didn’t think was funny. I’m putting my money on the first one.

“Nina?” creaked out Renee’s shaky voice.

“Nina?” I echoed.

A silent tear leaked from Sabrina’s eye. She collapsed. “All my friends are disappearing! This is my entire fault! You guys should just go home now! Then you’ll be safe. Apparently I must be cursed or something… This is supposed to be the best day of my life and now it’s turned into dooms-day for my friends… My sweet, innocent friends. First Heather… Now Nina, who will be next?” she sobbed.

Sara dropped to her knees in front on her friend who was having a mental break-down. “Hunny, shh, shh, shh. Nothing is your fault and no one is blaming you,” she cooed.

“Uhhh, what about my opinion? Huh? I’m blaming her! It’s her fault for inviting us! I could be at home texting or with Cameron doing… something.” Missy blushed as she said this.

“Missy!” I shouted at her, appalled at her horrid remark. “Sabrina is your friend! You will not speak to her like that!”

Missy’s nostrils flared and her face contorted with rage. “You will never speak to ME like that! I may not be your friend or anything close to it, but you have no right to yell at me for something I said to someone else!”

“I have the right to stick up for my friends,” I said slowly and angrily, my voice quivering with rage.

“You will never order me around again,” she spit.

“I will order around whoever I want to,” I said evilly.

“I order you to never talk to me again!” she shrieked.

“Ha! I don’t think you’ll be able to not talk to me for one hour! You couldn’t not insult me for five minutes or your head will explode!” I said rudely.

“Oh that’s it,” said Missy under her breathe. She unhooked her hoops and shoved them at Whitney who quickly took them and mouthed to us, ‘Do something.’

Nikki grabbed Missy by the arms behind her. Renee stood between us and Sara was bringing Sabrina to the living room so she could sit down.

As for me, my feet were planted to the ground in utter terror. Hadn’t Missy broken a bench press record at school? And how many records had I broken? Probably the falling down the most times in gym class record… I’m not really in a good situation right now.

“Lemme at ‘er,” shouter missy in pure rage.

“Don’t let ‘er at me!” I squeaked. I took a shaky step backwards and I heard the cry from in the living room. “Now my guests are fighting? Could my birthday get any worse?”

“Come on, Missy,” I whispered. “Are we going to ruin our best friend’s party because of a little quarrel? Friends?” I asked while sticking a hand out.

Nikki let go seeing the rage being wiped from her features. “Whatever,” she mumbled and shook my hand with a slightly harder grip than necessary. She snatched her earrings from Whitney and stalked to the kitchen to get a drink or something. The rest of us flooded into the living room. I apologized to Sabrina for our little scuffle and we all sat down. Missy shortly joined us with a glass of toilet water in her hand.

“Missy?” I asked slowly.

“Yes?” she asked as she sipped her drink.

“Is that your Uhhh… new favorite drink?” I asked curiously.

“What?” she asked sharply as she crossed her legs and plopped down on the couch.

“Is that water from the toilet?” I asked carefully, not wanting to set her off again.

“No! I’m not that weird! It’s seltzer, you idiot!” she said with a look of wonder o her face. She was probably wondering why I was so stupid.

“Oh,” was my Sherlock response.

A couple minutes later, someone brought up the question that was bound to be asked eventually.

“Where do you think Nina is?” asked Renee quietly.

“Do you think she was kidnapped?” said Nikki enticingly.

“That means the kidnapper must have been in this house,” said Sara.

“What if he’s still here?” I asked gravely. Everyone’s faces went dead at the evil thought.
