He rubbed his tired brown eyes as he dragged his feet along the now familiar white corridor, his two best friends following silently behind.

a yawn escaped his mouth as he thought back to his restless night, continuously interrupted with dreams of him once again.

as a matter of fact, he had been plagued with the same dream for the last three nights, that same dream of him, watching over them as if he never left.

he closed his eyes as he shook the thought from his head "what a silly thought" he told himself sadly "he's not here, he's dead. dead and gone"

he felt the tears well up in his eyes as he stopped and sighed in dismay.

"Laurence" Luke mumbled from behind "are you okay?"

"what a stupid question" Luke thought to himself. "of course he's not okay. NONE of us are okay"

never the less, laurence wiped his eyes with the sleeve of his jacket as turned and forced a gentle smile

"yeah I'm okay, I'm just a little tired"

Luke nodded understandingly and turned his attention back to watching over a still silent shane.

however, as drew walked beside them, he eyed laurence suspiciously, knowing there was something playing on his mind.

as they turned the corner to kier's room, laurence reached out for the handle but stopped as the four were taken aback from a sound coming from within the room. a sound that hadn't graced their ears for days, the sound of gentle laughter.

they listened for a moment as a muffled familiar voice rang out and Luke smiled secretly to himself

"i.is that Lucy ?" laurence asked surprised as Luke nodded in response

"I saw her by the wall yesterday" he explained "she said they would come by and visit sometime"

Laurence felt a quick jab of jealousy hit him in the chest. how could Lucy cheer kier up so quickly when he had failed to do so himself, but he grunted as he shook the thought away. after all, he had nothing to be jealous about. kier had chosen him over Lucy years ago and he knew they were nothing but best friends. besides, he knew he hadn't exactly been a candidate for making anyone smile in those dreadful few days, he wasn't even sure if he knew how to smile for real any more. drew had took his happiness with him when he died and laurence doubted he would ever feel the same again.

never the less, he knew he had to put on a brave face for kier. after all, he was still adamant he was to blame for everything. showing his pain at the moment kier had finally seemed to lighten up a little would only cause set backs, so with a deep breath he forced a painted smile across his tired face as he pulled the handle down and entered.

two faces glanced up to meet them as they shifted into the room, now complete with a helium "get well soon" balloon which hung by the bedside.

"Hey baby!" Kier wooed in a happier tone than he had spoke in for days. he held out his hand for Laurence as he joined his bedside opposite Lucy, who Luke had swept up into a surprisingly big hug.

"I'm glad you came" he whispered softly as he embraced her "you're just what he has needed"

Lucy said nothing but smiled and hugged him back as shane dragged himself to the corner by the window, a spot that seemed to have become his comfort zone since the very first night there. of course, drew placed himself beside him, watching him closely and sighing, wishing he could tell him he loved him, wishing he could let him know somehow that he hadn't left him, not for one second. he had been there all along wishing and praying he could just reach out and make everything okay again.
