Shocked.

I was shocked when I heard that sweet Spanish accent. I was shocked when I heard her introduce herself to the team. I was so shocked to see her standing there.

"My name is Sara Cacéres," she told everybody.

I lost track of everything she said afterwards, but David elbowed me when Vincent had asked her something.

"You single?"

Then she laughed. That amazing laugh. "Nope."

I bit my lip.

David and Samir started elbowing me and pushing me. "Aw, Sergio!" Eliaquim said, making them laugh.

"Stop," I pushed David and Samir away. The two of them, plus Joe, had been trying to set me up with somebody for weeks. They thought that it was time for me to dump Emily.

But nobody knew Sara was my ex. Well, at least I thought so.

"Sergio," David pulled the neck of my shirt. Everybody else left the locker room. "Wasn't your ex-girlfriend named Sara? And she looked exactly like that?"

"David, let's go," I walked away, "Boss's waiting for us."

"That's her?" he asked, as astonished as I was. "Bro, this is so awkward."

"I know," I said, "so please shut up. The day's been bad enough."

"You should talk to her."

"Yeah, shut up."

The day gradually got worse as it went by.

It was a training match. I cut through the opposition's defense, made a turn as I reached Joe, and boom! Martin had kicked me in the ankle.

I fell down on impact and shouted in pain. I looked like a wimp, I know, but the pain wasn't a pleasant feeling.

I sat up as Pellegrini walked over.

"Sergio, are you okay?" he asked as David helped me up.

"Yeah," I lied as I struggled to get up. The last thing I wanted to do today was meet Sara face-to-face.

"I think you should get that checked, mate," Joe pointed at my ankle.

"I'm fine," I insisted.

"Mate--"

"Martin, I'm fine!"

"Sergio!" Pellegrini said sternly. "Go to the clinic."

"Boss--"

"Now."

So that was when I had to do the one thing I dreaded most: meet Sara again.

As David walked me to her clinic, I decided that the best thing go do was just play it cool. Don't act too weird.

"Oooh," David hummed, "you're meeting her again."

I punched him in the ribs, "Shut up."

Sara looked incredibly shocked to see us as David barged into her clinic. I told Sara what had happened. I laid down on the couch, and David left.

Sara asked me more questions about the injury. She acted as if we were never together. She was always really good at pretending some things didn't happen.

I snapped when she told me that I had to miss the Arsenal match. I was so close to crying again. I covered my face with a pillow.

"This day has been so, so, so bad."

"What else has happened besides this?" she asked mindlessly.

"I found out Emily was cheating on me this morning," I said.

Her eyes widened a bit, "Sergio, I'm so sorry."

"Why don't you hate me?" I sat back up and looked at her. "I was such a jerk to you, Sara."

She sighed and shook her head, "Let's run some tests. Come on."
