Chapter Fifteen

“We got hungry and thought of going out and getting something to eat real quick, would you like to join?” Max asked casually. He was a great liar, I most likely would have stuttered throughout the whole lie.

Bret looked back and forth between us a few times then shrugged, “Why not.”

I frowned when Bret walked passed us. We follow Bret out and found some deer and ate. He didn’t leave us until we were all back into the house and we casually said goodnight.

“Do you think it’s too late to go meet Ryder?” I asked in a quiet whisperer where only Max could hear once we got into my room.

“I don’t think so but you just go so if for some reason Bret decided to come up here I can cover for you.”

I smiled at him and hugged him tight, “Your too good to me.” I whispered in his ear, and then pulled away but not before I pecked his cheek.

“Yeah, yeah. Now get out of here.” he said gently pushing me towards the window.

This time sneaking out was more nerve racking then anytime before, I ran as fast as I could hoping to make it before Ryder left. Once I got there my heart skipped a beat when I saw Ryder leaning against the tree his foot propped behind him resting on the tree with his back against it and his head leaned back on it. When his head turned at my approach and his eyes met mine, I melted under his gaze; I shyly looked away with a smile on my face. With each step I heard my heart beat faster and by the time he stopped right in front of me I thought my heart was going to come out of my chest. But when Ryder’s hands came to my face lifting it up and his lips landed on mine my heart stopped completely and so did everything else in my world.

My knees went weak when that fire burning came running into my veins and through my body. His hands quickly got tangled in my hair as my hands gripped his shoulders holding on to him like he would fly away or disappear. Our kiss continued for only a few short minutes before we broke apart, both breathing for air.

“I thought you weren’t going to come.”

“I wasn’t.” I admitted. He walked me over to our tree before I continued, “my brother Max, he kind of talked some scene into me.”

I heard Ryder growl when I said Max’s name and I immediately got defensive.

“Don’t you do that Ryder.”

“He is a killer K, a low life killer.” He snapped.

I flinched when he said low life, standing up I yelled, “So is that what you think of me?” I demanded but didn’t give him time to answer, “If you think my brother is a low life killer then you think I am to because guess what Ryder, I am just like him!” I screamed in his face.

“No you are not, you have a heart K, you have life still running in you, I feel it every time we touch and when we kiss I can feel your soul, your beautiful loving soul,” He completely ruined the moment when he spat his last words, “You are not dead inside like them.”

“Actually Mr. no it all, Max has a mate, you . . . you jerk,” I stuttered to find the right word and even though I said jerk it wasn’t what I was looking for, hell I didn’t even know what word I was looking for it was freakin hard to even call my mate a jerk, “Max does have a soul and he isn’t dead inside! He is caring and he is a great guy. He would have his mate now if Bret didn’t threaten to kill her. What if I told you to leave and never look back, what if I never saw you again after today? What do you think that will be like? Huh?” Ryder didn’t answer, “Max is way better of a person then I am so if you think he is dead inside and a low life then you think I am too.” I turned to walk away but Ryder caught my arm to stop me and again not giving him time to speak I quickly but now, calmly said, “He is my brother Ryder and if you want me in your life then you will need to accept him. And if you want me as your mate you are going to help me find his mate.”
