Halfway through another episode of Merlin I got a text.

Nate, 4:12

Hey! Can you come in tonight at 5? We got really busy

Sure!

Thanks!

No problem

After I finished the brilliant episode of Merlin, I headed upstairs and got ready for work.

I had gotten a job at Jake's Food just a month after I turned 16. I have worked there ever since, I will probably quit later this year before I go to college and find a job to where I'm going to college (which I quite haven't figured out yet). I put on my red collared shirt, changed my earrings into diamond studs, and tightened the messy bun that I hoped wouldn't fall out. I looked myself in the mirror and nodded in approval before cleaning up my mess. I came out of the bathroom just in time to see my mom coming in through the door. "Hi, mom!" I said running over to hug her.

My mom was standing in the door way with a plastic container in her hands and her computer bag hanging off her shoulder. My mom always wore artsy stuff and today she wore a bright-colored designed blouse with an undershirt and blue pants along with her blue clunky shoes. My mom has the same navy blue eyes as the rest of us and long eyelashes and a perfect-shape nose (which I was lucky to inheret). She has high cheekbones and laughing lines next to her eyes. Her hair is dyed auburn and was cut to a pixie cut when I was only seven.

My mom works as an art teacher and has taken on a few random jobs over the past year or so to cover the expenses of being a single mom raising two daughters in High School. She is constantly making jokes (however cheesey they are) and teasing us in the nicest way possible. She's strong in her faith and works hard to give us what we need. I love my mom.

"hi, how was school?" She asked.

"It was actually okay." I grabbed the container from her and set it on the table for her, "so Nate just texted me and asked if I could come in earlier today so I gotta go. Lilly went to dance and has a ride so don't worry, and I'll be home around 11." I lightly kissed her on the cheek and headed outside towards the car with my car keys and work shoes in hand.

                                                                  -----------------------------------

"Hey everyone," I said stepping into the small cafe. Jake's Diner was small and just like any other fast-food restaurant With the smell of fries and the uncomfortable, plastic benches. I walked into the back of the restaurant and tied my apron on.

"Hey, It's been really busy today, thanks for coming." Said Nate as he flipped the burgers. Nate is one of the assistant managers of Jake's restaurant and I've come to know him pretty well. He's a fun guy to be around and is deeply in love with his fiance that he's going to marry in December after he graduates from a few classes at the DATC. He has black hair and brown eyes with a little scruff due to not shaving for a day or so.

"No problem, I didn't even have plans for the rest of the day." He nodded and went back to flipping. I grabbed the small notebook and pen from my apron and headed out.

"Hey girl," Diana said passing by me. Diana has been working her nearly as long as I have. Shes a woman in her early 20s and also works at Walgreen's across the street. I guess she is living with her parents until she can have enough money to finish school. She's a latino and has a huge personality. I like that she can have fun while being a hard worker.

"Hi, who needs to order?" I asked.

"Tables 3, 4 and 7 would be great, thanks." I guess everyone was busy that night and couldn't come in seeing as it was just me, Nate, Diana and Fred. (who is a 17-year old with long hair is like a hippie and really only does what he has to do and doesn't do extra so he's not a big help when it comes to closing. After I ordered from those three tables, I was running all over the place. Nate was right, we were especially busy today. When it came to closing time, there were still three families eating. None of us wanted to ask them to leave, so we flipped a coin. Diana lost and had to tell them. I was so happy it wasn't me, I had to do it last time.

"Bye, see ya soon," I shouted at Diana as I walked out the door. We had cleaned up fast and had only the dishes left. Diana decided to let me go early seeing as I would be working overtime if I stayed. I unlocked my '83 rusty orange and off-white Chevy truck and hopped in. Today had been busy, but I had gotten time for it all. I was just amazing like that. I relaxed as I put in the keys and started the engine listening to it thunder to life. I pulled out of the cafe's parking and turned on country music. (Country music is awesome, so don't judge) I sang along with it and kept my brights on. It was dark and had rained earlier today, I don't want to risk it.

I pulled into the driveway, cut off the engine, and enjoyed the silence that surrounded me. I love moments like this. Where I can just relax and let my thoughts wander. I checked my phone and saw that it was already almost twelve in the morning. I quickly stepped out and locked the doors. I unlocked the peach door and quietly stepped quietly towards my room. I grabbed a pair of clean pajamas and headed into the bathroom. If I didn't shower every night I worked, people would always ask me why I smelled fries and hamburgers.

I stepped into the shower and let the hot water flow in my hair for a while before I started conditioning, shampooing, and shaving. I quickly stepped out the shower and got dressed. I will never get sick of the feeling when coming out of the shower. I always just feel clean, like all of the invisible dirt and stress had been wiped away. I gathered up all of my dirty work clothes and carefully walked to my room where I threw them into my laundry basket. I brushed out my hair with a comb and climbed into my bed. I turned off my lamp and put my glasses on the nightstand beside my bed and waited for sleep to claim me. And like most nights now, it didn't. I turned my lamp back on, put my glasses back on, grabbed a book from beside my bed and started reading.

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! beep!

Bolted straight up in my bed. Oh, crap. I looked down at my tangled sheets. I quickly tried to untangle myself. "Ouch!" I fell down on the floor. Followed by getting hit on the head from the book I had read the night before."Double ouch. Now where are my glasses?" I blindly searched around myself. After coming to the conclusion that they were not near me, I got back on my bed and searched for my glasses there. I flipped my blankets all over the place before giving up. Well, I can't go to school without them. Then, getting an idea, I crouched down and looked in between my bed and the wall to find that there were my glasses. Great, they just HAD to land in the black hole.
