I can't fucking believe this. Marlene is a vampire now? What the fuck? How did this happen? You can't be alive and dead at the same time! That's not how the circle of life fucking works. This is bullshit. But it's real life...
She's been like this for a little bit. A couple days. I haven't slept since. She's still the same Mar. At least personality wise. But she's faster and stronger. I'm supposed to be able to save her, not the other way around. Well not necessarily. She could have saved me any time as a human. But I guess it's just a gut feeling I get when I think about us in danger. I can't help it.
This one time in high school, someone threw a piece of fried chicken with barbecue sauce and it almost hit her. I smacked it away though. I wish I caught it so I could eat it. Or this other time, when we were much younger, she was being beaten up by a bunch of seniors and I yelled at them to let her go. I used to be fast at running. The boys just chased me but never caught me because I climbed a high tree after about ten minutes of non-stop sprinting.
But I guess it'll be nice for someone to be able to have my back for anything. We will protect each other no matter what. Nothing will change that. We will love each other for eternity.
I go over to her. I have been watching her training from afar. She isn't okay. She won't be able to kill her enemies if she can't handle hurting her cousin. Which, by the way, Vera can easily heal.
"Baby, it's okay. She's fine. It's not like you killed her. She's just in a tiny bit of pain. But she can handle it. Just like how you have taken all this bad news so well, she will handle that wound very well. She's not really suffering. It's just like when you accidentally hit the corner of the table with your side, it hurts for a minute or so but it feels better after a short period of time." I tell her. She jumps into my arms and sniffles a little bit.
"You two should go out or something. She's not going to devour anyone or anything but a cheeseburger with extra cheese." Vera tells me, pulling off a joke at the end.
"Gee, thanks. But I was already going to take her out of here. We're going to Tris and Four's place for a little." I reply pulling Mar up with me. We haven't seen them since the trip to the mall and Four said there was some big news to tell us about. Everyone is going to go and I only said yes because they said they would make me fried chicken and waffles.
Marlene and I walk hand in hand to my car and we drive to Four and Tris' house.
