My eyes widened in disbelief. How could a kid find himself in this kind of situation? Will this craziness ever end. I shook my head to get out of my thoughts and back into reality. Kids all around me started to gasp and shake. The ice was getting closer to the kid stranded in the middle of the pool, and he was still unconscious. I looked around to see if anyone was going to at least try and save him. I didn't see one person who was frozen still with fear. I faced back to the kids and looked for Iker. He was frozen still as well. His eyes darted from the kid in the water to me. You could tell from the look he gave that this was the most terrifying thing he had ever seen. That's it, I couldn't take it anymore. Nobody was going to help this poor kid. They were just going to watch him die, but I wasn't. I knew what I had to do. I was going to be the one. I was going to save him. I was going to be the hero. The only question was. How? I couldn't think of it on my own, it would just take to much time, and time was a virtue we did not possess right now. I needed someone else to help to plan with me. My eyes darted back to Iker. He was coming back into reality, but not fast enough. With a quick thrust of my hand I slapped him into the real world.
"OW! Dude what are you doing, this is not the time to goof around!" I rolled my eyes at him and then yanked him into the sea of scared kids. Once we were deep enough in the crowd that the coaches couldn't see us, I let go of Iker and looked towards the pool. By how far was the ice from the kid, I could tell that we only had about 3 minutes until he would be frozen solid. Just enough time we would need. I turned back to Iker and was met with an annoyed look. "DJ what are you doing?" Iker questioned at me angrily, "Like what are you trying to accomplish here?"
"Iker, right now is not the time to ask questions" I replied, "We have like 3 minutes to save that kid, and I need a distraction to get past the coaches."
"Really how do you think this is going to work?" Iker looked at me like I was crazy. My eyes widened at him, almost as if I was begging at him with a look. "Fine." Iker replied, "So are we like heroes now or something?"
"Not right now" I mentioned back," but once we save this kid, then we'll be." Iker and I nodded at each other. Iker then walked out of the giant crowd and nodded at me. It was go time. Iker ran out of the pool deck screaming and waving his arms around madly. Almost all of the coaches chased after him. I quickly began to take my clothes off until I was just wearing my bathing suit. I then began to breath calmly and quickly shut my eyes. The time to be a hero was now. I began to run as fast as I could towards the pool, pushing anybody in my way to the side. Once I was through the crowd a coach saw me and lunged his arms out to grab me. I quickly ducked and slid below his arms. I then quickly got back up and ran to the edge of the pool. Once I could see the edge of the deck. I jumped. My feet was the first part of body to hit the cold water. They were numbed instantly. Once the rest of my body hit. I honestly thought I was going to die. My body was just instantly numbed. As I began to sink in I tried to move all of my limbs to swim up. Nothing moved at all. Finally my mind just gave up, and I began to feel the urge to go to sleep. My eyes were slowly closing. I was drifting into a sleep I would never wake up from. I was not going to die that easily though. With all the might I had left I thrusted my arms up and began to kick. Soon I was back at the surface. I took a big gulp of air and soon went back under. With every stroke I took the kid got closer, but the water also got colder. Suddenly I was right next to the kid. Finally, we are halfway there. I grabbed the kid's arm and was shocked. His skin felt like ice. He didn't even feel like a human. I would have to find a quicker way to get out of this pool or else he would freeze. Then I realized. What about the ice? I began to swim towards the ice pulling the kid along with me. I was using the last of my body energy. Once I got to the ice, I could fell everything in my body shutting down. With my last bit of energy I threw the kid onto the ice and pulled myself up as well. The cold was going away now. I could feel my body coming back to me. I was going to survive. I was going to be a hero. I grabbed the kids arm and dragged him over the ice. It was weird to see the ice. It was so thick that it looked like it went down to the pool floor. How could something like that happen in such a short amount of time. I looked up again and saw kids and coaches. They were cheering for me. They looked at me like I was a god. I smiled back and walked forward still dragging the kid. I finally reached my last step. I threw the kid over the ice and back onto the pool deck. I did it. I was a hero. I had just saved a life! As I took my last step on the ice, I felt like I had just done something that would change my life forever. Suddenly the ice cracked. And I fell through. Everything suddenly went black........
