Kate's POV

Softball practice started about twenty minutes ago, and there is no sight of Rick. I swear the track team practices almost every day, and the one day that I actually have the courage to talk to him, they are not practicing. Why does nothing work out for me, ever? I mean, sure I love softball and it is a fun sport to play, but it is always nice to have the track team running around us because that means I get to see Rick. He may not be looking at me or even thinking of me, but that does not me I am not thinking of him. Maybe he just looks at me every time I look away, and maybe he really does like me, I guess I will not find out today, so much for courage. It just hurts not to see him, I get that I do not talk to him, or not yet, but just seeing him brightens even the worst of my days. He reminds me that even on the worst days there's a possibility for joy.

Rick's POV

Of course, the day that I was going to talk to Kate, the track team is inside doing weight training. Don't get me wrong, I love track, exercise, and fitness, but with her around it is almost as if she is my motivation to keep going, to try and practice harder and in the end to succeed. Whenever I am on the track, I love watching her play softball, I notice her watching me sometimes and I find it adorable. I just wait until she turns away to watch her, I don't want her to think I am being creepy, it's just that she is so adorable and beautiful, I don't know how someone could not like her, she is so amazing. Our practices usually end around the same time, so I am hoping that I will get out in enough time to still see her, and possibly even get the chance to talk to her, I just have five minutes left and then I can leave.

World POV

As Rick and Kate both finished their teams practice or training, they both had the hope to see one another, and to talk to one another. With Rick saying goodbye to his buds, and leaving a different way then he usually does, his friends asked him where he was going, with his response of "you know where". Of course being the males they are they all taunted him but in the end said "good luck bud, you go get her tiger." On the other side of the school, Kate was putting away the bats and helmets to give to her coach, with her friend Lanie waiting for her, she finished up, grabbed her bag and started walking off the field with Lanie. Lanie and Kate both reached the top of the stairs, while rick was just exiting the doors, Kate and Rick then looked directly at one another. Lanie turned towards Kate saying "I will meet up with you later, I see you have some business to finish." With Lanie walking away, and Kate and Rick approaching each other, things were finally about to happen. But

Kate's POV

It is finally happening, he is actually walking over to me, he wants to talk to me. I can actually talk to him, hear his voice, be close to him. Now all I have to do is prevent my brain from falling out of my head so I can actually talk to him. I bet he is not even close to as nervous as I am, I guess I will find out soon enough.

Rick's POV

Here she comes, so casual and so beautiful at once, she is only a few steps away. What do I even say to her, Hi my name is Rick, and ummm... Exactly, that is dumb, Rick think you dork, why is it that my brain works every other time, but when I get around her, it's like it just stops functioning. Why am I so nervous? I bet she is not this nervous, just act cool, Oh god her she comes....

World POV

Kate: Hey Rick, right? I'm Kate .

Rick: haha ya, I'm Rick, nice to meet you Kate.Coming back from softball practice I am assuming.

Kate: yes, how did you know? Sorry for being sweaty by the way.

Rick: I thought I saw you on the field before, number 25, right? and don't worry about it, I'm sweaty too, but it looks way better on you.

Kate: "blushes" yes that's my number, always has been and always will be. Also, thanks...I think?

Rick: good to know for the future, I have to go, but hopefully I will see you around again?

Kate: that sounds great to me

And with that both of them left, quite content with what had happened that day, and very happy of the small friendship that had just blossomed.
