TEN: The Success
Tabitha had started crying when she found out about the news of Caitlin disappearing. She still was crying as well. Castielle wasn’t saying anything. He just wouldn’t talk. Castielle had said one sentence that had spiralled his train of thought into a fiery abyss of pain and hell; “Wait if she has been taken or… hurt?” He hadn’t said anything after that. Daelyn walked over to the sobbing wreck of Tabitha. “Ha-ha,” She laughed, “Are you crying? What are you five? Get over it, maybe? I never cry!”
“Hey guess what day Friday is you shallow little twerp!” she said. Daelyn gave a look of pure fury towards Tabitha and stormed off. Parish looked at her, his hair wet from a recent shower, when she returned to her group. Then he looked back after Daelyn had said something inaudible and sauntered towards Tabitha’s direction. “What did you say to her? You have nothing compared to us! We are better than you!” he growled.
“Didn’t you wet the bed last year on school camp? I bet your hair is wet from having a shower this morning after pissing all over yourself because deny the use of nappies!” Tabitha smiled.
“Hey… uh… that was nothing… I sweat lot’s is all… shut up!” he said not being able to find words without embarrassing himself. He stormed off not saying much about it. Jake wasn’t there though. Tabitha didn’t think much of his absence. Sage walked over to yell at Tabitha. Sage walked up to her and said, “Dude, what is your problem? Sitting there crying and insulting people you don’t know jack all about. So just shut your ugly face and leave. No one likes you.” He said. She was about to insult his rollerblading interests when Darcy walked over to her. “I like her.” Darcy said.
“So do I!” agreed Jasmine.
“Me too,” Castielle announced, the first word in hours.
“She’s pretty cool,” said another.
“Don’t mess with her.” Darcy agreed. Sage gave them all a look of pure hate and walked off with a middle finger salute.
“That,” Castielle emphasised, “was cool.”
“I agree.” Tabitha said.
“We should do that every time they do that.” Castielle suggested. Tabitha smiled, her face sticky from tears and laughed.
Caitlin got out of the cab, paid the driver and walked down various streets in the older suburbs of Wellington City. It was around two hours after usual breakfast time so she wanted to get some food from the nearest fast-food place. She saw the golden arches of McDonalds and strolled towards them, hoping the breakfast menu will still be up for grabs. She walked through the red glass doors and up to the crème counter. “Hello, how can I help you?” asked the pimply boy behind the register. Then he looked at something on the other side of the register and then she said, “Happy meal thanks,” after realising the breakfast menu was half an hour gone. “That’s uh… Ten-Ninety-Nine Thanks. The chips will have a wait due to all the other one being sold so we have to cook new ones… sorry about the wait.” He apologised. He walked into the kitchen and made an in-audible phone call from the distance Caitlin was standing at. She walked over and took a seat at a nearby booth and zoned out, thinking about how she was going to build a life out here. She waited for the next half an hour and finally her meal arrived. She started eating and someone tapped her on the shoulder.
“Caitlin! Where the hell have you been? I have been worried sick! Get in the car now!” her mother yelled, embarrassing her in front of everyone else in the café. Large part of Caitlin wanted to yell, “Crap you found me,” but she restricted herself. She was also kind of glad for being found as well. She was starting to worry about dangers. She walked behind her mother wordlessly towards their car. At least she got to keep the food. “Give me that food.” Her mother said. Well at least… nothing. There was nothing she was excited to. No reason to do… anything anymore. She remembered the cut she had inflicted on herself before storming off yesterday. Would this become a habit? She looked at her mother’s eyes. They were on the edge of tears. Caitlin rested her hand on her mother’s free hand. “I’m so glad I found you,” she sobbed. Another thing to feel guilty about. She had never really thought about the emotional effects on her parents. What about her friends? Would they be okay?
Abuse had been hurled at Tabitha and her friends after the recent gang up on Sage, Parish and Daelyn. By anonymous popular kids who are friends with the trio of bullies. Still no sign of Jake. Until now. Jake approached Darcy. He looked at him, eyes red from sorrow and said, “I am sorry. Sorry for everything,” he sobbed, “please… please accept me! I am sorry for being mean to you! I have nothing anymore! NO reason at all to live or learn! Please can I hang with you!?”
Tabitha and Darcy exchanged confused looks.
“Uh… don’t you hate us?” Tabitha asked.
“I used to… but then I saw myself… what it felt like to be upset… from… from bullying… I am sorry… so… so sorry! Forgive me please!” he pleaded.
“Well… I don’t know what to say!” said Tabitha.
“I will be nice to all of you!” he continued.
“Uh…” Tabitha said, thinking of a way to use this opportunity, “Only if you tell us everything about them,”
“I will tell you!” he said.
“Okay… fine.” Darcy agreed. They all shared smiled with differential meanings.
