TWELEVE: The Take-Down
Darcy got to school earlier than his usual early time. He had messaged Jonathan through email to tell him what he was doing. He of course agreed to it. He would never risk missing something like this. Jonathan walked into their usual spot in the library a few minutes later. “We need surprise,” Planned Darcy, “tackle him to the ground from behind and keep on hitting him while he is down. Then we kind of leave him.”
“Cool. Sounds like a mad plan.” Jonathan agreed.
“Yeah. Can you believe he hit Tabitha?” Darcy asked, “That whole phobia he has must be extremely big for him. But why would you go that far for friendship?”
“Yeah,” Jonathan agreed, “weird aye?”
“Yeah. He must have some serious,” He paused, “problems.”
“You can say that a few more times.”
“Hah. Yeah. So uh, what’s happening in the crush life of Darcy Abott aye?” pried Jonathan.
“Depends what you mean by ‘crush’?” Darcy stalled.
“As in the type of punch you like,” he said sarcastically, “I mean as in who you like. And before you ask about what you mean by ‘like’ I mean as in the person you are interested in as in want to go out with.”
“I’m not saying anything.” Darcy said stubbornly.
“I’ll tell if you tell.” Jonathan bargained.
“Fine. Tabitha. You?” Darcy admitted.
“Nobody. I stick to my deals,” Jonathan said.
“No you don’t. You said you will tell if I tell and I told and- oh. I guess you did tell. Darcy squinted at Jonathan in a mock death-stare. “Be that way. You’d better not tell anyone. I don’t really plan on doing anything about it.” Darcy continued.
“Oh that’s very weird of you Darcy you have never ever not done anything about the girls you have liked. Very original!” Jonathan said being sarcastic yet again.
“They say sarcasm is an extremely stupid manner of humour, you know?” Darcy asked.
“And yet here I am, making it work.” Jonathan smiled.
“Unfortunately.” Darcy supposed.
“Anyway, we got a little off subject. When do we go up against Jake?” Jonathan asked.
“Hm. I guess maybe… I don’t know, second lunch time?” Darcy unsuccessfully schemed.
“Yeah. Okay.”
Jake walked out of his third period math class into his second lunch time looking for Daelyn. He spotted her walking out of a nearby classroom and approached her looking grim.
“I can’t believe you,” she scowled, “you actually did it. You clearly try hard to be friends with us. I saw Tabitha’s jaw. There was a huge purple and yellow bruise on it. But I stick to my deals. Sometimes anyway. But that is beside the point. You can now hang out with us. Hardly of us will like you because; One: You hit a girl, Two: You beat up your tried to beat up your best friends and Three: You are just generally a try-hard who would do anything for friends. You are also retarded.” She listed.
“How come the last on doesn’t have a number?” he question, ignoring previous insults he obviously had coming.
“Because it is more of a pure fact than a reason,” Daelyn explained.
