Lavender lay there for what felt like hours studying the stars. She was never able to look at the stars for her bedroom in the castle had no windows. Her brother told her this was best because nobody could sneak through a window in her room. But she loved the stars. The evenings treasured secret. Suddenly she felt a slight breeze beside her and realized someone had walked past her. The sat up and saw it was the guard going to sit by the slowly dying fire. She got up and went and sat beside him. "How long have you been up?" He asked her while staring at the fire. "Never went to sleep." She replied back to him in a hushed voice in fear of waking up Astrid. "Me either." He said leaning back so he was looking at the stars. She sighed and asked "why didn't you go to sleep?" "I don't know. Maybe fear, or worry." "Why would you be worried?" She asked her voice sounding quite questioning. "I left everything I had. Disobeyed order of the King, and ran away with his sister and a prisoner. Yet I still don't know why I came." There was a long silence until she finally said. "Because you knew you needed to. I don't know when the other guards will find out I'm gone and you as well but I can say when we do we won't be getting much sleep. I think we should go to sleep now." He nodded and she stood up. "You coming? She asked. "He shook his head "I'll go to sleep here." As he finished what he was saying in between the trees a light brighter then any light she had seen before shone through onto them. Astrid woke up with a gasp and Jace stood up and took out a dagger from his boot and slowly walked towards the light shielding his eyes. Lavender came behind him and Astrid followed clinging onto Lavender's shoulder. As they approached the light got brighter until she began to feel light headed. She felt Astrid fall down beside her and Jace was looking like he was going to pass out as well. "What-" he asked as she fell to the floor.
