Today marked my last shift, until I come back from maternity leave. I was thirty weeks today, too. I was super bummed out to be leaving, but I knew that it would be the best for the babies. I have seen Will 8 times in the last few weeks because I had to start going more frequently with my diabetes. he, and of course Matt, told me that I was only allowed to administer medication and not carry anything or doing any transportation of any kind. It was kind of depressing not being able to do my job to my full potential, but I knew that it was best for me and the babies.

I woke up this morning with Matt's hand on my increasingly large stomach. When I began to stand up he pulled me back to his body and rubbed my stomach. I was in the mood for some good coffee, but since I haven't been able to have that for 6 and 1/2 months now, I knew that I could and had to avoid that at all costs. Matt and I got up and started getting ready for shift.

"Hey, Gabby. Please be careful today, don't get hurt."

"Matt, baby, I'm fine. What are you going to do when you don't have me to worry about at the firehouse."

"I'm going to worry about you even more. I just am ready for this. All of it. You, the babies, the new house! Speaking of that new house, I'll call them later today to see if it will be ready soon."

"Ok, that sounds good."

We finished getting ready, even though I made us just a little late because I could't move around as well. We drove off the the station and began walking in.

When we got onto the floor, Sylvie came up to me with her stomach, which had grown for her 14 week old belly and gave me a huge hug.

"I'm not ready for you to leave! Please stay out of trouble and promise me that we will do things while you're at home!"

"Sylvie, you still have an entire day with me. Its not like I'm leaving now! I promise that we can do things, and I want you to be with me for the birth of these babies."

"YES! Sorry, that wasn't a question! Hormones."

"I gotcha! Hey, I'm gonna go say hi to the rest of the 51 family."

I walked into the kitchen and nobody was there. They suddenly popped out from behind the walls, and the kitchen island.

"HAPPY LAST DAY GABBY!"

"Awe thanks guys, I'm going to miss a few of you."

"Awe, that's the spirit that we won't miss when you're gone." Hermann said jokingly.

We all hugged, and Matt and I stood together. Sylvie came in and went up to Severide and gave him a hug. It was so cute just watching those two be with each other. I knew that he was going to be a great dad. Matt quickly pulled me into his office.

"Hey, I was actually just on the phone with the people doing our new house. They said that they're actually done with it, if you want to move in."

"I do, but I'm not allowed to be moving."

"I'll figure something out, babe. How does tomorrow sound?"

"Uh, it's a little rushed, but I think it'll be fine."

"OK."

This shift, although probably my most important, was the most uneventful shift of my entire career. We didn't have a single call to go on, which I was more thankful of than you'd expect. I hadn't been sleeping good lately, so it's good that I got a little sleep at the house.

***AFTER SHIFT***

"Hey, I talked to Sylvie and Severide. They said that tomorrow you could you could stay with Sylvie and Kelly will help me move."

"Ok, sounds good to me."

The rest of the night was just comforting. I knew that these were the last few nights that Matt and I would get to spend alone, and I loved every minute of it. It was just nice to snuggle up together and watch tv, and that's exactly what we did. After about an hour or so, we began talking.

"Matt, we need to start to plan my birth."

"I know, what were you thinking?"

"I don't know. Maybe just a traditional hospital birth? And I definitely want a epidural."

"Gabby, if thats what you want, thats what you'll get."

"I know, but I want you there for me. I don't want you on a call."

"I know babe. I will."

"Just promise me that when I and here, you will keep your eye on your phone."

"I will, Gabs, I will."

"Ok, good, now I'm tired. Can we go to bed?"

"Sure. Love you."

"Love you too Matt."

We went to our bedroom and snuggled up together. We fell asleep pretty early and woke up in what seemed 20 minutes.

I woke up with Matt whispering my name.

"Gabby, gabby."

I groggily got up and walked over to him. We hugged.

"What time do we have to leave?"

"Uhm, we were kinda supposed to be there 10 minutes ago, but you looked so peaceful."

"Oh Matt. I'll be ready in 3 minutes."

I hurriedly got dress and we got in the car.

"So I've been thinking more about you on maternity leave. Would you be willing to go sit with Antonio at the district for the days I'm on shift? Maybe stay over at his house too?"

"As much as I don't want to be his burden, I think that's a good idea. I'll call him."

I dialed Antonio. He picked up.

"Hey Tonio."

"Hey Gabs. What's up?"

"I was wondering if while Matts on shift if I could stay with you at the district?"

"Yeah. I think that would be great. I could spend time with you and keep an eye on you. Just let me know when I need to lick you up.

"Uh, today is Saturday, so Monday?"

"Ok. I'll see you then. Love you sis."

I hung up the phone and we walked into Severide and Brett's apartment. We knocked on the door and realized it was open so we went in. We looked around and couldn't find anyone. We walked around and I found Kelly holding back Sylvies hair in the bathroom. I took over his position and they said their goodbyes to go start out moving day.
