A man came rushing into the estate, I think I've seen him in the grounds before and he might even be Xavier's driver, I think his name is Sai
"Sir! We're in trouble, the police went into one of our bars..."
"What?"
"We are suspected of running a gambling house"
"Xavier..." Xavier appears as if he is trying to think of something quickly, he blinked once slowly as if lost in thought.
"Xavier, what are you going to do?"
"I'm not going to do anything"
"But sir..."
"We aren't doing anything illegal, the police can come if they want, they won't find anything"
"But the police wouldn't even come at all.. Unless.. There was evidence, right?"
"Even if there is evidence, our company won't get into legal trouble"
"What do you mean?"
"My father is not the one behind this" I didn't understand what was going on, leaving me confused, Xavier went back to his room.
I feel useless, I can't do anything to help, I can't help him.. I want too.. I want to be useful. In the restless manor, I sat alone unable to be of any use to anyone. I climbed into bed all alone, I couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard I tried and just when I felt my eyes get heavy.
"Aaahhhhh!" Someone had climbed into my bed. "Help m-" As soon as I tried to shout, my mouth was covered by a larger hand.
The darkness I made out the figure who held me.
"Xavier? What are you doing here?"
"Is it so wrong that I come into my wife's bedroom?" I guess when he puts it like that...
"I-it's just.. Ahh" without a word, Xavier embraced me "Xavier.. What happened with the police?"
"Everything was cleared up"
"Huh.. How?"
"I didn't do anything wrong and we don't have to worry because my father wasn't behind it, he wouldn't allow me to be arrested, it would blacken his successor's name then he would be in trouble"
"He sorted things out with the police.. "
"That's right" An enemy turned out to be an ally... Xavier said that we didn't need to do anything, and that's exactly how it turned out.
"Then.. Who did this?"
"There are a lot of people who would consider me a thorn in their side, don't forget that, the timing of this is so suspicious"
"Could it have been his wife?"
"Probably not her but her small-minded son" He gave a small sigh "Speculation about who will be Alex's successor has become a popular topic in the media, the media knows that Alex's son isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, so everyone is curious about whether or not he'll still appoint his son.." Did his son do those things because he wants to be the successor?
"Is there anyone other than you, who can be a candidate for that position?"
"If there was, they would just leave me alone, that's why that moron is targeting me" He scoffed, but I felt that he was in pain somehow "But he don't follow through, he should know about the reach of his fathers authority better than anyone else, that he's a moron"
"But... I'm glad.. Everything was solved"
"He really did a number on himself" Xavier showed a somewhat self-deprecating smile, even so, I felt a little relived, I'm glad that me and Xavier are safe.
"Hey, I'm going to sleep here tonight"
"Huh..? But this bed is too small for the both of us"
"So what?"
"I-I'll sleep on the sofa"
"Are you kidding me? That defeats the whole purpose but thank you" Xavier kissed me on my forehead and then stroked my back with his large hand.
"Emily.. " His voice echoed in my ear, his voice, sounding sweeter then when we first met, echoed through my heart, and my heart beat became faster and faster.
After awhile, he stopped stroking my back.
"Xavier.." Huh.. I looked at him anxiously and I was surprised to see him fast asleep, breathing quietly.
I could see an innocence in his sleeping face, that was much different from his usual self, he's in my bed.. And he's holding me.. Does this mean that.. He feels more comfortable with me? I hugged Xavier and closed my eyes. The next day by the time I woke, Xavier was gone, I felt a little sad, why didn't he say anything to me before he left..
"Emily" I heard my name called out as I was leaving the house.
"Yes?"
"You should have someone drive you to and from work from now on"
"But..."
"I'm worried that someone might come after you, so please, have someone drive you when you go to work"
"Really? Do you think they will come after me too?"
"You are my wife, there is a possibility that they will think about using you as negotiation tool"
"But I already turned down the money... "
"Even more reason to target you, they might resort to force" Xavier looked down, I was content with knowing that he was worried about me.
"I'll be fine, I'll try to come home as soon as possible"
"Thank you"
"I'm off then" I felt happy about the way Xavier seemed to care about me, gradually, I feel like we are getting closer and closer.
I left home in high spirits, I didn't have the slightest idea what was about to happen to me..
Xavier's P.O.V
"What?! What do you mean that Emily disappeared?" Dan ran into Arima's house.
"I... Thank you.. For coming when I called"
"Nevermind that, what's wrong?"
"I called her work and they said she left but she hasn't come back home"
