Chapter 15

I felt so helplessly useless. When about two years ago, my earth aunt got into an accident near our house, I had called the paramedics, and waited for the ambulance to arrive, trying to stop the bleeding with my coat. The driver who had hit her had skidded off, only leaving a trail of smoke.

If only my aunt was unscathed, I could have stood up and chased after the driver, swearing unspeakable words vibrantly. Although aunt was not very badly lacerated, crimson blood was

spreading across her shirt, barely conscious. Panic was slicing through me, as I awaited, feeling as helpless as a child.

But that amount of helplessness was almost nothing compared to the helplessness that gripped me as I watched Magnus go against the seemingly indestructible chimera. I was the princess of this country, and I could not do anything?

Where was Art?

The chimera jerked its goat head and released a dark flame towards Magnus, who barely ducked the flame, as he jumped over and rode onto the torso of the chimera, gripping onto the mane of the lion, his fingers gripping onto the tangled fur.

"Athena, get out of the way!" yelled Magnus.

As glad as I was to hear my very name articulated from his tip of his tongue, I could not rejoice when the people were in immense terror and running helter skelter.

I obeyed, cold sweat tickling my back underneath my shirt, as I got out of the way, just as the chimera raced down the hill, the goat howling in a horrible shriek, the lion growling under its breath, the snake's head opening up ajar, the chimera running around, trying to get Magnus off its back.

Magnus gripped the chimera's neck with his left arm, and with the other hand, seized the snake's head, sweat pouring down his neck, shining in the sunlight, his white hair almost catching fire in the light.

As Magnus released his other hand to slice off the snake's head, the lion released another mouthful of purple shade flame, the snake hissing and twisting its head off his grasp. Magnus did not even flinch, as the flame grazed his skin, twisting away and slicing off the snake's head, a millisecond before the chimera thrust down Magnus onto the ground.

I turned my head away at the sight of the snake's head rolling to the ground. What could I do to help...

Both of them were as fast as each other; Magnus swung up onto a tree's thick mahogany branch, and got down to the ground, racing towards the chimera, his blade fully extended-

The chimera came to a halt, twisting its body towards me, eyes aflame in wrath, growling. A wooden arrow had pierced through the torso of the chimera.

I looked behind, to see Art, who raised his arrow again. The chimera sprinted towards me, and fear pumped into my brain, turning it cold. Magnus raised his sword to throw it to the chimera, as I picked up a stone, and swung my arm hard.

The stone hit the chimera, but it did not stop the chimera a single bit, only angering it further.

As it pounced upon me, going up high into the air with claws extended, Magnus' blade went straight into the body and through, green liquid splattering all around. I managed to draw back, just in time as the chimera dropped down with a sickening sound.

Soldiers- obviously, clad in uniforms, drew close followed by Art, and went on their knees, saluting in Senalian.

"Miss, are you all right?" asked Magnus, drawing near.

I could see his right arm grazed with flame swollen red, and a small cut across his right cheekbone, perspiration gluing his shirt to his chest.

"Oh, my daughter!"

I turned my head, and felt myself falling into Magnus' arms just as I saw blackness, hearing and seeing no more.
