Chapter 4: The Season
My favorite season is fall/spring. Just because they're both seasons of change. Spring is the season of growth and greenery, while fall is the season of death and earth-ery. Yes, I know that's not a word. Joshua told me that his favorite season is winter because of the snow. I love the snow, too, but I love the changing seasons more. We've been working on our fall and Christmas concerts since the second week of school. It's been amazing! I've got three solos, more than anyone else, and they're all singing. I'm super excited! My aunt Jennifer says I've got the voice of an angel and she's so not kidding. And I've got two duets/trios on the violin. It's going to be amazing. Mrs. Couley's the best and I'm the only one that calls her Mrs. Couley. She is my favorite teacher and I think we're going to be the best of the best of friends. Avie and I have become the best of friends. We hang out in the mornings before school because Aunt Jenn has work (she's a nurse). So Avie's my ride. And Joshua and I hang out after school. He was my first friend here, and I'm grateful for that. But lately he's been acting kind of strange.
"Joshua!!" I yelled furiously. I was dripping wet and it's cold outside.
"You called, Lily?" He asked casually, his hands in his pockets and a smirk on his face. Oh, I hate it when he does that; and he knows it, too.
"I'm dripping wet and it's ALL YOUR FAULT!!!" I yelled at him. He shrugged.
"Did I forget to mention I put a bucket of water up there? Sorry," he said. I shook my head at him.
"Oh, you're gonna get it, dude," I said. I started walking towards him. He grinned and started backing up. I smirked when he backed into the corner. His face fell. I ran straight towards him and hugged him, transferring some of my wetness to him.
"Oh that's cold!" He yelled. I let go and ran to get changed. When I came back down, there was a note on the fridge. "Sorry, I had to go. Something came up. See you in English, Josh." I only call him Joshua when I'm mad at him now. I'm the only one that does. Everyone else just calls him Joshua. I can't believe it's almost Halloween. I've been in Denver for about four months, since July, when my mum and dad died. They were in a car accident. And I feel like it was all my fault, because they were coming to get me from Aunt Jenn's. But Aunt Jenn says it wasn't my fault, it was the other driver's fault. They were drunk. And I don't drink or smoke or anything. Aunt Jenn doesn't either. We never have and we never will. It's so bad for you and for your surroundings. Joshua doesn't either. He says he's a Mormon, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that it's not a part of their religion. I've gone to his church a couple of times with Aunt Jenn, and everyone's so nice and welcoming, I love it. Aunt Jenn and I are taking the discussions. I'm thinking about getting baptized. Aunt Jenn is already positive that this is the true church and she's getting baptized in two Saturdays.
