Chapter 1

Capricia's P.O.V

I was sitting in my room reading this month's Vogue magazine, I had just completed painting my nails. My weekly notifications went off, It's a good thing I didn't have any polo matches this month. My horses Gorgeous and Karamel would definitely love the break, they deserve it. I checked my phone calendar and I have a rifle shooting competition next week. My summer wasn't really packed but I was taking two summer classes. I heard the front door open; it was almost midnight and I lived alone. My dad being my overprotective, super cautious dad said that even though college is a great experience filled with friends, I would soon realize the need for privacy and rented me an apartment just outside campus.

I picked up the knife - yes I keep a small in my nightstand, sue me - and held it behind my back and started walking, my phone in the other hand with 911 already entered on the keypad. Suddenly a body crashed with me and shouted . . .

"Happy Birthday honey" shouted Andrea as she came in and embraced me in a hug.

"Thank you so much Andy. I love you" I said feeling awkward thinking my best friend was a burglar.

"Love you too Kat" said Andy.

"What are you doing here in the middle of the night?" I expressed while still being hugged by Andy.

"I came to surprise you. Also, now you can most certainly drop the knife now" She broke off the hug and kissed both my cheeks, there was a knock on the door and Lorraine came in with lots of shopping bags and a cake in her hand.

"Are those for me?" I asked putting both my hands on my chest as a sign of 'awe'

"No, it's for my aunt, she turned 100 today. Obviously, it's for you and well also for us too" replied Lori keeping all the stuff on the table.

"What do you mean? I thought only the birthday girl gets the gifts" I said in a questionable tone.

"Well we are going to San Francisco! Tomorrow afternoon or Today afternoon as its past midnight. We can go to the beach and get hot guys, You, Kat can lose your virginity etc." said Lori pointing and trailing the finger from my head to my toes in the air. She had always been the fun one, also the most careful person. Maybe.

"Guys, I don't think my dad is going to agree with that plan. I mean he had a problem with me coming all the way here to Stanford leaving him all the way in New York" I replied sitting down on the couch. "It's really not worth it if it makes dad sad and mad" I said. Andy sat on my left and Lori my right and sandwiched me together.

"Come on. I'll convince you daddy dearest" said Lori.

"Fine. Go ahead call him, if you convince him. I'll lose my virginity" I said in a laughable tone. Ya you convince my dad. My overprotective father who sent his bodyguard to spy on me all though an all-girls summer camp.

"Give me your phone. Now" shouted Lori. I quickly got up went to my room and the girls followed me. I gave Lori my phone and she called my dad. Me and Andy sat on the bed while Lori paced the room dialing my dad.

"Put it on speaker" said Andy.

Trrging. Trring. Trring

"hey sweetie. Happy birthday. How does it feel to be 21? Your birthday gift should be arriving soon" said Dad from other side of the call.

"Hey dad. Thank you so much, it feels great actually. Why are you awake so late? Not sleeping again. Also, Lorraine wants to discuss something with you "

"Sure, go ahead give her the phone" said Dad. Lori shushed us first. He completely evaded my question.

"Mr. Devitto, actually I wanted to tell you that your daughter is no fun at all. I made a plan that tomorrow we could drive up San Francisco, head to the beach and stay there for the weekend. But you dearest darling daughter wants to stay locked up in her room on her birthday and I don't know how you allow it. But I won't let Capricia in here all day" said Lori. Has she gone completely nuts? I never said I would be locked up in my room. God!
