Okay, so this idea is more of a series idea since the concept has many parts, but it could also be a film idea when the concept is simplified.
I got this idea while watching the TV show The X Files with the were-lizard episode (don't ask, but I recommend the series and this episode is one of my all-time favorites) so bear with me.
So there's a girl named Amberly Shelton who recently moved into a small town with the typical, small-minded people living in it. (Not all of them, but most) Of course, Amberly's parents stick her in a top-notch private school nearby, and she has to try and blend in with the rest of the students. Blending in and adjusting is easier said than done, however; many of the kids had been there and known each other their whole lives, and their parents and grandparents (maybe) knew each other for just as long. You get the picture; these guys stick to the status quo and aren't exactly very welcoming to outsiders. The popular girls have their clique, the popular guys have their clique, and they both work with each other a lot to give the newcomers a hard time. The teachers are just as cold, and they don't like the kids either. (Wow, Edge of Danger much??) Well, most of the teachers give the popular kids special privileges in fear of losing their jobs and making the kids' parents furious.
It turns out these kids hide secrets among themselves, as they make sure sure not to reveal the "mysterious" death of Miles Galloway to Amberly. Miles was a student who had formally attended the school when he was around.
Here's the twist; Miles is alive and well, but only at night. And that's only under certain circumstances that he hasn't figured out how to control quite yet. Basically, Miles can turn (mostly) human at that time, but the rest of the time he is a ghost.
In short, Miles is Danny Fenton/Danny Phantom (from human to ghost) but switched. Instead of turning human to ghost, he turns ghost to human since he is already deceased.
One day, as Amberly is exploring the town with her little sister Julie, they stumble upon the town cemetery. Amberly keeps it in mind, and once she makes sure that everyone's asleep she goes there to explore. She then encounters Miles, and the two meet and become friends since they are both usually outsiders. However, she doesn't know that Miles is a ghost since she only sees him at night.
Miles usually has to go and hide before he turns back into a ghost, and Miles usually has to consult with his ghost friends about his ability. His ghost friends have a wide range of personalities, since nothing really changes once you're a ghost, you're the same person just in a different, undead form. Most of them are usually freaked out about this strange ability, since it had never really happened and they don't know how to deal with it, but they agree to help nonetheless.
Eventually, Amberly does find out about the truth, and she does have a hard time accepting it. She does start to accept it with time, and together they try to find out more about Miles so that he could 'pass on', stop haunting others and finally leave this world in peace.
Also, the title is a temporary one, I don't know what to call it. I almost put A Thousand MILES. HA.
Movie options:
**With a movie, it will probably be just that Amberly and Miles work together to solve his case and pass on with no help from others whatsoever, and the ghost friends may be cut from the film. However, with a series (ex. TV, web) there would probably be a lot more.
** There would be a lot more tension between Amberly and her family, especially her parents and little sister, if a movie was made.
** Amberly may recruit one or two friends to help solve the case throughout the movie, but no one really knows about it.
Series options:
** Amberly and Miles would work together to solve the cases of other ghosts in town so that those ghosts would pass on, 1 case per episode. With each case (or every other case), both of them would find out more about Miles's case.
** There would be an eventual group with Amberly and Miles that helps solve cases and helps ghosts pass on. Like, Amberly may have friends that find out and want to help.
** The ghost friends would be included, and some of them may even help them out with a case. They would mostly provide comic relief though.
Reasons Why This Was Scrapped:
- Cool idea, but I have no location or set options.
- Can't pay actors.
- Since it is an independent production rather than through a film company, it won't be taken seriously.
- Can't make fight/action scenes for obvious reasons.
- This is more of an idea that would be better executed through a higher-quality production.
...Either option would have a dramatic finale where Miles Galloway's case is solved, and he moves on..
