Chapter 9
My eyes flutter open as I realize that I have fallen asleep against my will. The last thing I remember is trying not to sleep because I need to meet Niall at the lake at midnight. Niall!
I grab my phone out of my cluttered bag and see that the time is already 11:55. I don't even remember what time I got to bed, but I really thought I would be able to stay awake.
I fumble with my hairbrush and run it through my disheveled ponytail as I try to make myself more presentable. I have to remind myself not too make too much noise because I definitely don't want to wake Eleanor. I grab a mirror and see that the makeup I put on this morning is still mostly where it should be. I just take a makeup remover towel and wipe under my eyes, just like new.
I put the towels back in my purse next to me and pulled out my mints. It would be really embarrassing if he could smell my morning breath.
I saw that it was now midnight, so I put on my sneakers, forgetting the socks and climbing out of the tent as quietly as possible.
As soon as I stepped out I looked up at the sky and saw the full moon above me, the moonlight shining down on the campground. I also saw the stars. We were far away from the city, so they were so bright, usually it is hard to see the stars with all the other light pollution.
"Beautiful, isn't it," I heard behind me.
I slowly turned around to find Niall also gazing at the sky.
I sighed, "It takes my breath away."
He reached over and grabbed my hand saying, "Then I don't know what this will do for you," and started guiding me somewhere.
We walked down the path toward the lake in a comfortable silence just enjoying each other's company. The shadows from the trees draped across the gravel path were enticing, the dark shapes in the moonlight held my attention.
After a few minutes of walking, we came to the lake we had been to just a few hours before, but it looked totally different.
We walked to the edge of the dock and took off our shoes, placing our feet into the water, still warm from the hours of the hot sun beating down on it.
The moon reflected onto the water, which was so peaceful. The waves and ripples we had seen earlier were gone. I could not believe how alluring the lake could be at night.
Niall, who was still holding my hand, broke the silence, "Brooke, I now we haven't known each other for that long but I have feelings for you. It's okay if you don't feel the same way, but I just had to tell you," he said trailing off at the end.
I found a huge grin erupt on my face, "Niall, I do feel the same way."
His signature grin was now etched on his handsome face. "That's a relief, but.....um I don't want to rush anything if that's okay with you. I have been waiting for my... princess for a long time..I can wait a bit longer...I...I just really want to do this...right. I'm sorry this probably sounds so stupid."
I almost fainted at his cuteness. Kidding. Kinda. I could tell he really was serious because he was taking his time to choose his words wisely.
"It's not stupid at all. You took the words right out of my mouth. We need to get to now each other better before it can become anything else," I reply to him totally understandingly.
He leaned down and placed a kiss on my cheek. Nothing big, more like a peck, but it was still nice. "Thanks for understanding, love," he said so quietly it was almost a whisper.
I feel his larger hand take my small one once again and my stomach immediately fills with butterflies. He honestly is one of the cutest people I have ever met. Not just because he's extremely hot, but his personality is adorable.
