Carl's P.O.V.
I toss my head around. My eyes shoot open and I look to my right. Emma is laying next to me. I look down her body and her left foot is gone. She has a cold towel on her head and a metal leg is sitting in the corner. (The one's the amputees use.)

"Emma." I lightly shake her. "Emma."
She mumbles and her head tosses both way before her eyes flutter open, looking directly at me.
"C-Carl?" She says. I nod my head, smiling. And for some reason, I start crying. "Carl!" She yells excitedly.
She sits up and climbs on top of me, let on either side. "You're- you're alive! I've never been so happy." She says. I hold her sides so she doesn't fall, "Not as happy as I am right now." I say to her. There is a knock and she lays back in her spot, putting the towel back on her head.

"I thought I heard you guys." Maggie says. Maggie has a smile from ear-to-ear. I am so happy for her. She has Glenn back and she's a mom!

"Hey Maggie." I say. My voice is suddenly unsteady and cracky.
"Hey Carl, Em. How are you two feeling?" Maggie asks.
"Pretty good actually." I reply, smiling.
"Yeah, pretty good." Emma says, smiling and looking at me.
"Have you two talked?" She asks.
"No, not yet. We just woke up." I say.
"Oh, alright. Well, if you guys need anything, just holler." She says. She backs up and closes the door.

I lay my head back as I stare at Emma. Her head is buried in a book, just like elementary school. How did she pick up her book that fast after Maggie left? It must be some kind of talent that girl has.

Emma's P.O.V.
I'm reading my book and I can see Carl out of the corner of my eye, staring. I continue reading and ignore him. He is staring at me still. As I continue, the words become blurry. I rub my eyes and squint. My brain becomes foggy and then it goes black.

Carl's P.O.V
"Emma? Emma?!" I shake her vigorously. I know she didn't fall asleep because two seconds ago her eyes were wide open. And she wouldn't wake up, no matter how much I shook her. She passed out.

"Maggie!" I yell. "Someone help!" I yell. I still continue to shake her.
Denise and my dad burst through the door. Denise runs to her and opens her eyes. "Her pupils dilate." She says. She opened her mouth and swabbed it. "She's just dehydrated. Most likely a concussion from when she hit her head." Denise said.

"What?!" I practically yell. "When did she hit her head." I ask. My dad and Denise look at each other. "I'm going to go get her some water, food, and some aspirin." Denise says, and with that, she leaves.

"Carl," My dad says, sitting next her, "When she got her foot bit off, the walker grabbed her and she fell. She hit her head and that's why she has a big green bruise on her forehead." My dad explains to me. "It's a miracle she remembers some things." He explains.

"Oh my God." I whisper to myself. I slide back into my pillow and put my hand on her arm.
She starts to wake up and my dad notices.
"I'll go help Denise with the food and water." He says, leaving.
"Emma? Are you alright?" I ask, holding her hand in my hands.
"Mm. Uh.. Yeah." She mumbles, sitting up.
I sigh. And suddenly I'm a little flushed.
"Are you?" She asks me.
"Yeah." I answer.
"Hey," she touches me and I look at her, "I'm okay." She says, looking worried.
"Yeah." I reply.

I out my hand under the covers and Emma holds it. She holds it. What she doesn't know is that I was in and out of consciousness the night it all happened. I just happened to have been awake when I heard what she said. She loves me.
She's in love with me.

There's a knock on the door, "Emma?" Gabe walks in with flowers. Her favorites; white roses. I am thinking about Emma and Gabe when I am snapped out of it by Emma pulling her hand out of mine. She hasn't even talked to him yet. She would never throw him out there again, she's Emma.

Emma's P.O.V.
"Hey Gabe." I say, smiling. I stand up, but immediately feel dizzy and sit back down. Gabe grabs my side and Carl's eyes dart towards his movements. I take my favorite flowers, white roses, and set them next to me on the table.
"I also have a tray of food from Denise, and some aspirin." Gabe says, opening the door. He pulls the cart in and sets it next to me.
"Thank you." I say, taking a bite out of my apple.
Carl gets up and puts on his hat. "Talk to you later, Carl?" I ask.
He glares at me before saying, "Maybe in another three months."

It hurts to get a look like that from Carl. I love him. Part of me wishes he was awake to hear me say that to him.
"Dick." Gabe says, snapping me out.
"He's not. He's just had a rough time." I defend him. Why? I don't know. He just completely embarrassed me. But, you know. Now that I love him he is going to slowly break my heart because he doesn't know and I won't be the one to say anything. "I love him." I say.

"What?" Gabe says.
"What?" I ask. I'm not sure what Gabe is asking.
"You said you love him." He says, half angry and half sad.
"Uh. N-no. I didn't." I say. I said it out loud?! Shit, shit, shit!
"It's okay." Gabe says, smiling. "I will wait for you."

He doesn't understand my strong feelings for Carl. I had completely forgotten that Gabe was my first love when I think about him. I know it's terrible to say. But Carl. I think he's my-

"Well, I'll be outside if you need anything." He says, leaning down and kissing my forehead.
He leaves and I finish eating. I lean over and grab my 'leg.' I put it on and stand up. I immediately fall back onto the bed. Denise walks in. "Woah." She says, "Up and running I see?" She asks.

"It's the end of the world. Gotta know how to run from it." I reply.
"I guess so." She replies.

She helps me out of the door and outside.
"Now, you know you will need a lot of physically therapy, right?" She asks.
"I know. I'm ready." I say.
"You got it." She says. "We'll spend two to three hours a day in therapy." She says.
"Okay." I reply. I underestimated how hard this would be as I continued walking.

I look up and Carl sees me. He is smiling. I make eye contact and he turns away quickly. "Damn." I say under my breath.
"What is it?" Denise asks.
"Carl. He's so..confusing." I say.
"You love him though." She replies.
"Doesn't mean he loves me." I say, sadly.

It was quiet for the rest of therapy. I walk to the gardens on crutches. Crutches. Again.
I sit by the flowers and just think. Carl comes around the corner, and I could tell he was thinking about walking the other direction. However, he decided against and walks toward me.

He sits down in front of me. He is criss-cross across from me. So close, but so far. "Hi." He says.
"Hi." I reply.

"Is shouldn't have-" We both say at the same time.
"No, I-" we both say.
We both nod and laugh, inaudibly forgiving one another.
"Emma, I need to tell you something." He says. The way he looks at me makes my heart skip a beat.
"Okay." I reply, gulping
