"You didn't kill her" Dr. Robins said and Michael got up exasperated.
"That's not for you to decide" The boy responded and started walking around the room, not being able to sit any longer.
"Why would you think that?" The therapist asked.
"It was all my fault" Michael responded. "I couldn't save her"
"Tell me how it happened" He almost casually asked. Michael stopped dead and looked into his eyes intensely.
"I can't." Michael respond, defeated.
"I can't help you deal with something you won't talk about" He pushed but quickly realized his big mistake. "But I guess you've shared enough for now."
Michael went over to shake the doctor's hand and then left for the door.
"Do yourself a favor and hang out with that Luke kid. From what I remember you two were best friends for years. Believe me kid, that's not something you want to let go of. Don't let that go to waste."
Michael opened the door and left without muttering a word. Not sure if he would listen to the doctor's advice.
That had been the most civil conversation Michael had been a part of with Dr. Robbins in a while. Without getting violently defensive. He was walking around town when Avery called him.
"Michael, hey." It was 8pm the last time Michael checked. He had been walking for a while now.
"Hey" he responded casually. He kicked a stone by the bridge he hadn't visited in a while.
"Is there a chance we could talk?" She asked, sounding distant.
"Right now?"
"Yeah."
"Sure, where are you know?" Michael asked as he started to walk off the bridge and towards the dirt road.
"Just tell me where you are and I'll go. I'm already driving anyways."
Michael looked around, not sure if he wanted to mention where he was. So he just sent to her to the entrance of the park he was currently in. "I'm at Hayden Park. I'll meet you in the entrance in 10 minutes?" He had already started walking towards the entrance. "
"Sure."she dismissed and the line went off.
'Something was wrong. Michael couldn't help but think.
He walked with a blank mind after that. Only not getting lost because he knew this pathway by memory.
~~
Within a few minutes, he was already where he was supposed to be. Avery was leaning against the fence. Waiting for him. He had taken a little bit longer than expected.
"Are you alright?" He asked her and she turned to look at him, as she hadn't noticed he arrived.
"I am." She responded looking back at the parking lot.
"I don't think you are. Let's walk." Michael knew he was insisting when he really wasn't supposed to care but he knew what it was like to keep things locked up inside. He wanted to be there for her.
"I thought you didn't want to be friends with me" She responded in a sarcastic tone that made him smile a little bit.
" I don't." He said and the girl furrowed her eyebrows. "That doesn't mean I'm not a good listener." He encouraged and she nodded in approval and they both slowly walked around the park in silence for 5 minutes before she started explaining the things she needed to get out of her head.
"I think my parents are getting divorced." She said. Michael stopped looking at the path in front of him and stole glances at her as she talked. "I'm not too sure but I think my dad is leaving my mom. Hell, I think he already left us. He's cheating. I know he is. And he's not happy." She took in a deep breath before talking again. "I think this would be too hard on my mother. She's not the strongest person you know?" She caught his stare and they both stopped walking.
"When do you think that'll happen?" He asked, staring into her eyes. He found himself being caught up in them.
"Soon. Like, tomorrow soon. He isn't the greatest dad. And I think a divorce is well needed between them you know? Their relationship has been broken for so long. And some broken things can't be fixed." Michael tore his eyes away from her and continued walking.
'Well she got something right.' He thought. 'Some broken things can't be fixed'
"I'm not trying to be rude, but if you want them to be apart.... what's the huge problem?"
"I don't think my mom would take it well. She's in denial. This would completely break her." She responded and sighed.
"My dad gets home today. I don't want to he home when he gets there. They'll be fighting." She took out her phone and sent a quick message. We continued walking and in a few seconds she got a response. "It seems I have no choice. One of my friends is out of town and the other is going to be busy tonight." She says as she reads the screen of her phone.
"You can stay with me." Michael proposes and instantly scolds himself for.
She looks up at him and shakes her head. "I don't want to be a burden for your parents-" She starts but is interrupted.
"I live alone now." He confessed and she lifted her eyebrows but didn't question it.
"Oh. I mean, thanks. If it isn't much of a bother." She hesitantly said.
He shook his head.
If she needed a place to stay, he wouldn't say no.
"C'mon. You drive." Michael turned.
Avery smiled behind him slightly.
I know this one is a little bit shorter than the other ones. Im sorry. I've had a huge writers block. But I will update normally after this.
