"Wake up sugarcube," dad says gently shaking me. I groan and get up. "Schooltime," he says. Dad's eyes are bloodshot and I can tell he has a terrible hangover. "Dad," I whisper. "Yes Kim," he says. "Why don't you just stop drinking?" I say. "Drinking allows me to forget the crappy life I have right now. Stuck with you and nobody to help me raise you. A dead wife and bills to pay," he sighs.

My eyes well with tears at the mention of mom. "Oh please don't cry Kimberly," dad begs but I can't help myself. "I miss her so much!" I wail and start sobbing uncontrollably. "This is why I drink for god sakes!" dad says throwing his hands in the air and storming out my room.

I bury my face in my pillow and cry till my eyes are red and puffy.
I finally get up after a while and get ready for school. Quite frankly I don't know which is worst my home life or my school life.

I get onto the school bus and sit at the back in a corner and listen to music while reading my book.

"Hey cow-face!" My bully and worst enemy Jessica Mayers shouts from the front of the bus. Her minions Shania Lewis, Lisa Thompson and Christine Patterson laugh loudly and say 'cow-face' in unison. Some other kids laugh but others just turn and look at me with sympathy.

I feel my face burn with embarrassment. Tears sting my eyes and I hide my face behind my book.

"That's enough!" the driver yells and everyone settles but Jessica and her parakeets snicker among themselves.

The bus comes to a halt outside Riverdale middle school. We file off the bus everyone in their own cliques while I walk alone clutching my book.

I stand at my locker getting my math books. Just as I shut my locker Lisa 'accidentally' walks into me sending my books flying.
"Oh sorry cow-face. You should look where your going," she says with a wicked grin plastered across her face.

I sigh and begin collecting my books. The bell for the first lesson rings and I shove my books into my bag and sprint to math.

My math teacher Ms Hindsbury begins explaining pi. I zone out and imagine I still have my mom, that I have a bunch of friends and that I didn't have a girl like Jessica for a bully.

"Now miss Weatherhead! How would one go about using pi to find the area of a circle?" Ms Hindsbury says.

I snap back to reality. Great now the teachers are picking on me.

I look at her blankly and shrug.

"You never pay attention!" she roars. "I wake up five o'clock every morning to get to school to teach kids and kids like you are constantly day dreaming! It's absolutely outrageous! " She continues her face red with fury.

Jessica and Shania laugh and say I have a cow brain too. I drag my chair out and get up.

"You have no idea what I'm going through so stop judging me by the way I act!" I shout grabbing my bag. "Don't you shout at me young lady!" Ms Hindsbury thunders. "I'll do what I like thank you!" I say and storm out the class slamming the door behind.

I know I'm gonna be in big trouble but right now I don't care. I walk through the school gates and get a bus into town.

The ride takes at least fifteen minutes. I wander in and out of stores aimlessly. A few guards threaten to call the police for me but I just glare at them and walk out the store. I begin to get hungry but all I have is ten dollars and I'll be needing bus fare so I stop by a small shop and buy myself a small sprite and a bag of chips.

When I see it's nearing three twenty I catch a bus home even though I know dad will be out getting drunk again.

I walk into the apartment and sure enough dad is gone. I sigh and slump into the couch and watch a bunch of horrors on Netflix.

I get up after almost scaring myself to death and make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

It's ten fifty-two and dad still isn't home. It's bad enough I don't have a mom but the fact that the one parent I have now neglects me to drink with his mates and forget his troubles.

I contemplate on whether I should go to school tomorrow or bunk off. I still haven't decide by the time I'm ready for bed and I go to bed still pondering on what to do.

I wake up and it's quarter past seven. I don't care that I'll be late for school. Dad still isn't home yet and I start to get worried. I trudge to the bus stop and catch the public transport bus to school.   When I arrive the bell has rung already so I collect my French books and casually take my time going to class.

"Ah Miss Weatherhead! The principal would like to see you in his office," Mrs Chesterfield says as I enter French.
