No wi-fi signal... Crap! I need to text Taylor on whatsapp but no text without Wi-Fi. Well I'll do the old fashioned way. I type an SMS message to Tay which reads:

Hi Tay!
Don't worry about me I'm fine me and dad had to move because of... issues. Well just letting you know so you won't panic.

Kimberly.

I press send. My phone buzzes.

The message reads:

Oh what a relief! I was getting worried. I'm gonna miss you but hey at least your rid of Jessica and her crew. We'll text all the time right?

Taylor.

Aww I love my best friend.

Of course we will your my best friend for life.

Kimberly.

I respond.

One more thing. Did you know there's a fugitive. It was said in the paper that this fugitive brutally beat a man near the old fox bar. After the murderer stabbed the victim several times before leaving.

Taylor.

My mouth is practically hanging at this information. The police are searching for dad.

I need to leave now before I get tangled in dad's problem.

Tay,

I need to get by your house. I'll explain when I get there.

Kimberly

I send the message and grab my duffel bag. Luckily Charlie and dad have gone out, probably drinking. I leave the house trying to remember the route dad took to get here.

I get myself lost and decide to ask a woman the best way to Miami.

I listen attentively making mental notes.

I hurry and take the subway. When I get off at my stop I buy a chocolate bar and a coke.

I then take another subway. The ride is longer and I fall asleep. When I open my eyes I begin to recognize a few buildings. The train quickly goes back underground.

I get off at the next stop.

When I leave the station.

I find myself in the city and if I look closely I can see my dad's old workplace.

I know my way from here and head to a bus stop and wait for the bus while eating my chocolate bar.

The bus arrives and I board it taking a seat at the back in case people recognize me (which I doubt, but just in case).

The bus passes my old apartment and I think of breaking in to see it again but I push the idea away and stay on the bus.

I ring the bell and the bus halts by Taylor's house. I grab my Duffel bag and sip my coke as I exit the bus.

I walk up the Matthew's path and ring the doorbell.

Taylor opens the door and we smile embracing each other.

I walk inside and remember I haven't had a shower. I ask Taylor to use the bathroom.

I let the warm water rinse the soapy lather off my skin cleansing it.

I change into a fresh set of clothing and explain the story to Taylor and her parents.

They give me a reassuring hug but I'm not sure I want their pity.

They let me stay until they can sort things out and I thank them.

She ran away. I think she's done the right thing.
