I'm standing in the mirror of the changing room.
The shirt is hideous.
I've been biting my tongue for a while but this is over the top.
The shirt is a hideous army green with brown blotches.
I come out with the shirt on with my nose turned up.
"It fits well," Taylor's mom says. Taylor is behind her mother gagging.
"I don't like it," I say flatly. "Well what do you like sweetie?" Mrs Adams-Matthews asks simply.
"Purple, Black, Pink, blue. Skinny jeans, dresses coming just above my knee, flare skirts, Baggy tees and track pants," I list getting carried away. "You know what you and Taylor are both the same age go on enjoy yourselves get what you want. Here's $175 dollars," she says before giving us both a kiss and heading to the women's department.
She's the mother I've been longing for since mom's death.
The idea of Taylor's father hurting her and Taylor enrages me.
"Come on," Tay says smiling.
I remove the shirt and place it on the rack.
We decide to go to Areopostale.
I buy a deep purple and black plaid shirt along with a high waist jeans pants, a knee length jeggings, a hot pink areopostale shirt and a black and white polka dot skirt. I hand over the money and we head back to the store Taylor's mom is in.
"That's it?!" Taylor's mom says opening her purse handing us four twenty dollar bills each. "Go on sweetie you barely have clothes if you need more money just ask," she says kindly.
We take the money and go to H&M.
"Does your mom work?" I ask Taylor surprised at the amount of cash the woman has.
"In a way," Taylor says.
"What do you mean? I don't see her leave home on a morning," I respond.
"She owns her own law firm so she only goes to work if there's a problem, a meeting or just to check in," Taylor says.
"Awesome!" I say surprised. "So what job does Rob have?" I say.
"Accountant," Taylor says.
"Your rolling in it aren't ya?!" I say laughing.
"I don't like to brag," my best is says and we crack up laughing gaining a few stares.
I buy two pajamas, another jeans and a jumper.
Taylor buys two tees, a tracksuit bottom and a pale pink dress.
We pay and go to Starbucks spending our money on mochas.
Taylor's mom looks satisfied when we show her the items and she hands me two shoe boxes.
I peak in both. One contains beautiful black and gold sandals while the other contains a pair of secret wedges.
I squeal giving her the biggest hug ever.
When we get home me and Taylor try on our clothes pretending to be walking down a catwalk posing while Tay's mom makes pasta and meatballs.
We laugh and begin to dare each other.
Taylor dares me to prank call someone so I grab my cell and dials random number.
It rings then the person picks up.
"Hello?"
"Hi can I speak to frosty the snowman?" I say in a gruff voice.
"I'm sorry who is this?"
"His second cousin queen Elsa," I say.
"I don't know who you are but this isn't a joke."
"Let it go, let it go, don't hold it back anymore..." I sing in a shrill voice.
The person puts down the phone and Taylor and I laugh till tears stream down our faces.
"That was so original!" Taylor says wiping away tears.
I laugh some more before daring Taylor to run in the corridor scream "Cockroach! Cockroach!"
Taylor's mom comes running with insecticide and I'm practically rolling on the floor.
"Must've been my imagination," Taylor says shrugging.
Her mother glares at her and heads back to the kitchen.
Robbert comes home just in time for dinner.
"Honey I'm home!" he says.
Classic.
Taylor's mom greets him with a kiss before removing his tie and setting a plate of food on the table for him.
"Now my wonderful family. Yes that includes you too Kimberly," Taylor's mom starts and I beam proudly knowing I'm classified as family and not a guest.
" I have some news," she continues. I shove a forkful of pasta in my mouth starving.
"I'm pregnant," she says.
Taylor and I squeal with excitement while Rob laughs giving his wife a kiss on the cheek.
"Seriously mom?!" Taylor says happily. Her mother nods and she gives another squeal. I smile.
Another Adams-Matthews. This is great! They're such nice people no doubt this baby will be just like them.
"I have an appointment for the sex of the baby," Mrs Matthews says grinning.
Taylor and I wash the dishes together and get ready for bed talking non-stop about the new baby.
Then in the silence of the night a thought hits me. 'With a baby on it's way what happens to me?'
