Dear Dierie,
Today mommy, daddy and me all went to a fair in the park. Daddy buyed me a Teddy bear and got me Hello Kitty by wining a compitishun. Me and mommy went on the rollercoster and the teecups.
I smile to myself as I read this poorly written diary entry by me when I was five or so.
I flip the page.
Dear Diary
Mommy thought me to spell diary. Mommy and daddy had their annaversary today. I got to stay at my favourite cousin's, Catherine, house. We make cupcakes and played rock, paper, scissors.
I'm laughing now. I continue reading a few more entries before shutting the book. Somehow I find it soothing and distracting.
Before I know it I'm fast asleep.
I'm awoken by the apartment door slamming. I jump out of bed grabbing my baseball bat. I creep downstairs with trembling hands.
I stand behind the wall ready to swing. I jump from behind the door waving the bat aimlessly. I catch sight of dad. "Kimberly. We need to talk," he says. "I'm tired it's 10:28," I lie going back to my room.
Surprisingly he isn't drunk and jumps from the couch. "Just listen ok?!" he says. "No! You slapped my face!" I shout at him and drop the bat and go to my room. "Kimberly!" I hear him shout as he bangs on my bedroom door.
I ignore him and listen to loud music.
I get up the next morning and get dressed.
I blatantly ignore dad and walk through the door. Instead of getting the school bus I get onto the subway.
I get off and walk around the station a bit.
There's a man with a shiny jacket playing the saxophone and people are giving him money.
There's a girl also in ragged clothes begging.
The scene brings tears to my eyes.I leave I start wandering around the city unsure if where to go.
When I decided to bunk school I didn't plan it fully.
I find myself sitting in the corner of a coffee shop eating a Danish.
"Hello dear aren't you supposed to be at school?" an old lady asks.
"No, there's a burst pipe," I say thinking quickly.
"Oh dear. Well have a nice day," she says giving a toothless smile.
Phew!
I grab my bag and head to another store.
A guard starts to threaten to call the police. I become delinquent and stand my ground.
"That's it," he says calling the police .
I take off down the road dodging bags and pedestrians.
I arrive at the station and catch the subway back home.
The house is empty praise God. I start making something to eat and go to my bedroom to watch 'Switched at birth'.
Before I know it I drift off into a deep sleep.
