There's a girl she once went by Annie
There once was a girl.
She lived on the bad end of town.
She'd smile and lite up every room.
She never hid her thoughts.
There once was a girl.
She lived in a scary house.
She smiled a toothy grin
She never said she planned to leave.
There once was a girl.
She lived near my heart.
She never hid her wrists.
There once was a girl.
I knew her well.
She smiled at me every day.
She lived not another day.
There once was a girl.
She always told me she'd stay.
She lived a hopeless life.
She never hid her thighs.
There once was a girl.
She lived far from me.
She never hid her scars.
As she hugged her razor close to her.
There once was a girl.
She lived at the end of that street.
She never smiled again.
But she went away.
They said she was an angel now.
They say she'll come home one day.
There once was a girl.
She made me promise.
To never show my wrists.
To never show my thighs.
To never hide my thoughts.
To never hug the razors close.
To never cut my skin.
No matter the temptation.
No matter the desire to see that same picture once again.
Painted on similar wrists.
Hers and mine.
But she said she'd never leave, and Annie's coming home to get me, so we can paint a pretty picture, just like she promised.
Annie is my angel come to take me home.
