'You think I have all day? Just standing here and waiting for you to start your grand speech... a.k.a. bullshit.' I pretended to tap my foot and made a point of looking at the clock, simply to wind him up.
'I know you've been having this nightmare.'
I was momentarily speechless, my heartbeat stopped and everything around me went deadly quiet. The silence was getting to me. It was deafening in my ears. I searched his face for some kind of emotion, anything, something that will give him away, but his facial expression remained passive and unreadable.
'What? What did you just say to me?' I tried my hardest not to show surprise on my face.
'Nothing.' He turned around and walked back into the theatre, leaving me standing there with my mouth hanging open...
That night, when I finally dragged myself through my front door, I was dead tired. I felt so dead. Having to put up with people constantly talking to me and asking for my opinion, it made me want to run home, put on my comfy pj's and just pass out.
I trudged upstairs, past my parents' bedroom and I was about to go into my own room when I heard the shouting again. Do they ever stop?
A glass smashed. I winced and slammed my door. Why can't I live in peace and harmony? Why do my parents have to argue 24/7? Why can't the neighbours just report to the police due to the horrendous noise level and get the care service to take me away already...
I fell onto my bed, closing my eyes and sighed heavily. I seem to have everything but nothing at the same time. My life was one big disaster. I don't think I could ever truly feel happy again. Until Callum came along. I remember the times when he would sit with me and hold me in his strong arms and talked to me until I was laughing, whenever I didn't want to be anywhere near my house...
I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew, was this scraping noise against my window that startled me awake. I sat up in bed, exactly where I had lied down, I brushed my hair off my face and looked out the window.
There was absolutely nothing there.
Though the scraping noise continued. I swung my feet off the bed, and walked towards my window. Most likely, it's the branches outside making the sound.
Then a face suddenly popped up.
I clamped my hand over my mouth to muffle the scream, and took a huge step back. Then I saw who it was, and swore under my breath.
I lifted up my window, and gave him my worst look. I shifted from foot to foot, and threw my hands in the air in frustration.
'What the fuck are you doing? What time is it...' I glanced at my digital clock, 11.23. 'Oh yeah that's right, just show up at this time of the night. And creeping around outside my window, and stalking me. Seriously?'
'Let me in, Rae. My arms are killing me.' He didn't even apologize!
'Urgh what the hell...' I walked over and pushed the window all the way and watched him climb in. Wouldn't it be hilarious if I just pushed him and he fell out my window... I thought to myself. Oh God shut up, brain, just shut up!
'What do you want?! Do you realize what a creep you are? Seriously!' I walked over to the other side of the bed and deliberately turned my back on him.
I felt the matress sink down under his weight as he climbed on to my bed. For some odd reason, my heart skipped a beat. Remembering the last time he was here... I turned around and snapped, 'What the hell are you playing at? Get off my bed? What do you want?' I suddenly lost it and gave him a big shove on the shoulder. He swayed back and looked at me wearily.
'Rae, don't be so difficult. I think I better spend the night with you.'
'What? Fuck, no! Like that's gonna happen!' I scoffed.
'No! Not like that. It's complicated.' He pushed his hand through his messy mane of hair.
'You better start explaining! I don't want to be anywhere near you!' I turned away with an arrogant sneer on my face.
'Please, just listen. I know you kind of hate me -'
'KIND OF?! Now that's just fucking hilarious...'
'Okay, you hate me a lot. But you should know that I cared a great deal for you! Honestly. I never pressured you about sex or anything...'
'Oh puh-lease, give me a break. I told you, I wanted to wait. But still you pushed for things far too often. I don't think that's respecting my choices at all.' I was still on my knees, facing him. How awkward can this ex talk get...
He looked down sadly, 'Rae I'm so sorry... But you did break my heart with what you did. And then I thought I was going to move away forever, and never see you again. It really made me miserable. You probably won't believe me but it's true. I thought I was leaving you forever...'
'No shit! I don't believe you one bit,' I spat out the words and glared at him accusingly.
He said nothing, he just leaned in close and looked me in the eyes. The eyes were a cold shade of grey and it looked piercing and entrancing. I wanted to say something else but I couldn't... I knew that deep inside, I believed him. I just let him put his arms around me and pulled me into a tight embrace.
