I squinted my eyes open a little and let my eyes adjust to the light that I have been longing to see. I smiled happily as I saw Nia and Sanvi looking down at me as I laid in my bed. I looked around the room to get the feel of the room again.

"Wow, it's good to see again!" I said cheerfully and sat up in my bed.

I opened my eyes all the way to let all the light in. Sanvi and Nia gasped and stared at me curiously. I looked around me to see if it was something by me.

"What? Is there something in my hair?" I brushed frantically at my hair trying to get it out.

"Have you ever seen eyes as gold as those?" Sanvi said, staring into my eyes.

Nia shook her head. "No, should we get Rhy?" She said worriedly.

Sanvi nodded and Nia was gone. I stood and went into the bathroom to see my eyes. I gasped when I saw beautiful gold eyes. They were darker around the edges of the eyes. I stared into the gold eyes that replaced my hazel eyes.

"Where is she?" I heard Rhy's voice sound from the bedroom.

"Here." I said and walked into the bedroom.

Rhy looked sternly at my and grabbed me by the arms. He stared into my eyes and I felt my cheeks turn hot. I was shocked when a smile stretched across Rhy's face.

"Am I freaking you out?" He said as he released my arms.

"Yeah.." I said awkwardly.

Thank goodness he didn't think I like him. I thought to myself as he walked out of the room.

I poked at the limp piece of broccoli in disgust. I have never liked broccoli and never will. When I was little I flushed it down the toilet. We had to have a plumber come get broccoli out of the toilet. Good times.

"Where has Rhy run off to now?" I looked up when I heard a annoyed voice.

A man I have never met before was looking at Sanvi expectantly.

"He must have gone to see Master." She said with food in her mouth.

Nia nodded as she stuffed her face with a roll. A roll made out of plants. I almost gagged at the thought.

"C-come on, Poppy! Try some!" Nia said with her full mouth and she shoved a veggie roll into my face.

I screamed and grabbed the disgusting thing and threw it across the room. Rhy walked in the room and got a veggie roll to the face. He scrunched up his face as it hit him and he turned to see who threw it.

"Who threw this roll?" He said angrily.

It was all quiet and suddenly my demented snort filled the room. I quickly covered my mouth and Nia burst into laughter. I quickly joined her in laughing.

"Excuse me." I heard a stern voice behind me.

I turned to see Rhy, very angry too. My smile disappeared as he glared at me. He shook his head and walked up to the little stage for announcements. He grabbed the microphone and looked angrily at me again.

"As you all know, we have our lifelong enemy, the Light Guardians." He said to everyone inside the room.

"We can't have food fights, no slacking. Because Light Guardians have declared war." People gasped as they got the news.

"Who are the Light Guardians?" I whispered to Sanvi and Nia.

Nia leaned in towards me. "They protect the light element and the creatures of day. They are the opposite from us." She said in a hushed whisper.

"We need to prepare by reinforcing the fort walls and more guards at the patrol. And Poppy, no throwing rolls. I want to have a talk with you after." He ordered.

I nodded slowly at him and glanced at at Sanvi and Nia. They looked sympathetic at me and I felt a stab of fear in my gut. After giving more orders, he walked up to me.

"Come on Poppy, I don't have all day." He said tiredly and grabbed my arm and we walked out of the room.

He stopped in the hall and he glared at me. I wanted to shrink back but I held my chin up.

"You can't come into our world and then make friends and start food fights. Not in a time like this." He growled.

"I'm sorry I just want to bring fun into this dark world of yours." I apologized angrily.

Then you shouldn't have let me live. I thought hastily. He shook his head at me.

"Listen, you can have fun but you need to stay on task. Today we will start your training to help Sanvi in the medic room." He said, turning his head towards the main room where Sanvi sat.

"Medic room? I thought I was a Night Watcher." I asked confused.

He nodded and ran his marked hand through his hair.

"If there is a war we need medics to help the wounded. That's why you are going to help Sanvi. There are others who are going to help as well so don't worry." He explained and he calmed down a little.

I nodded and put my head down. I saw in the corner of my eye that Rhy was staring at me. I looked up to him and he looked at my eyes.

"Why do you have gold eyes? Why are you so different?" He asked me as he looked into my eyes.

I looked down and shrugged. I never wanted to be here, let alone be different. I thought sadly. I want my cousins back and my mother. As I thought of my family tears swelled in my eyes. I collapsed to the ground and started to cry. Rhy kneeled next to me and wrapped his arms around me.

"Are you okay? What is wrong, Poppy?" He whispered to me.

"I hate it here! I want my mother and my cousins!" I cried out.

He rubbed my arm as he reassured me. "It's okay. They are safe."

I shoved him away from me and I stood up.

"I don't want to here about them, I want to see them!" I yelled at him and ran to my room.

If I can't leave here, I will kill myself. I told myself. I was not going to be tortured here. I curled into a ball on my bed and cried in my room for a while.
