Love's Real Identity

To love,

Beautiful, pure.

Then you crash; start falling.

Falling without mercy or hope.

Pure pain.

Poetry for Dummies

Cinquain, my dummies! Fun times... Not. Once again, this from the wonderful french- yes, I know, them again, them with their fancy poetry and overly lovely romance. Blah.

This time, they give us Cinquain, from the french word cinq, or in plain simple ol english, means five. Hence why they use the whole five lines thing. And dummies! You'd be happy to know, they don't have to rhyme! Awesome, right? Be happy.

The not-so-awesome bit, of course, is that this type of poetry is a bit more complicated than all the other poems so far... Like, say, there are absolutely thousands of different kinds of them! Okay, I may be exaggerating, but you get my drift. For obvious reasons, I won't bore you dummies about all the different types. Even my teaching skills as the Dummy Master can't handle all the madness! So let's not get into all that and start with basics, yes?

So. There are two main types. The modern one, by Adelaide Crapsey- who I'm sure none of you dummies really care about- is the whole syllable counting cinquain. The other, is what we call the word cinquain, which is basically the same but you're counting 'words' instead of 'syllables'. Simples! To make all this even more easy, I've made you guys a Dummies Chart for Cinquain Rules, which'll show you all the things you dum-dum's need to know:

Line              Syllable Count               Word Count                         What to Write

1                       2 syllables                      1 word                                    Subject

2                       4 syllables                      2 words                     Description of Subject

3                       6 syllables                      3 words              Some Action About the Subject

4                       8 syllables                      4 words                  Feelings About the Subject

5                        2 syllables                     1 word                 Synonym or Sum-up of Subject

See? Aren't I just so nice? Simple lil chart, that it is! Simpler than what Wiki has to say! Just trust this Dummy Master, and you'll be fine! As you can see, I've ever written a syllable count cinquain up there! Yes, I know, shocking. But I'm proud. Now why don't you make me- and yourself (duh)- proud and start writing, eh? Most importantly, show 'em frechie who's the boss! I mean, it's easy peasy!

Enjoy,

K.D.
