Elena Gilbert rolled and tossed in her bed all night. Her mind was heavily clouded with happy and sad memories. They all seemed to mock her and not allow her any sleep. Finally, Elena gave up on sleep and snapped open her tired brown eyes.

Instantly, Elena rolled onto her side to look at her dresser. In a small drawer at the bottom was a picture frame flipped it so she could see the wonderful picture the brown wood of the picture frame held.

The picture was of Elena and her ex-boyfriend Stefan Salvatore.

It was taken on their graduation day. They were in red and white graduation robes. Stefan in the red robe; Elena was in the white robe. It was the saddest day in Elena's life.

After Elena's valedictorian speech she was captured by the waist. Someone started kissing her ear softly. "Stefan!" Elena squealed trying to squirm out of his firm grip.

Stefan Salvatore smirked and turned his squirming girlfriend around in his arms to face him. "How'd you know it was me?" He pressed his lips together in a straight line.

"Because only you would do that to me." Elena smiled and leaned in for a sweet kiss.

They were on the verge of a make out session when voices screeching, "Elena!" broke them apart.

Bonnie Bennet and Caroline Forbes came racing toward Elena and tackled her into a three girl group hug. Stefan stepped aside to let Elena chat with her friends. After a thousand pictures of Elena, Elena with her friends, Elena with her family, and Elena with Stefan everyone drifted off to their own family and friends leaving Elena and Stefan alone.

They were walking hand in hand around Mystic Falls High School. This was no longer their school. Soon enough in the fall they'd be in college. Elena would be attending Hampton University following in her mother's footsteps. Stefan was going to Whitmore College here in Mystic Falls. It was a long distance, but at least they weren't in different states like Bonnie and Damon.

Bonnie had gotten an academic scholarship to the University of San Diego and Damon decided to go to Whitmore to stay close to home. It was sad for both of them, but they trusted each other enough not to cheat.

Elena trusted Stefan not to cheat on her. It was the other girls Elena didn't trust.

Stefan was defiantly good looking. He had beautiful brown hair that was just right. His lapis lazuli blue eyes made you just want to melt inside when looking into them. Also Stefan had a hot body with a glorious six pack. But, that was only Stefan's physical features.

Stefan was caring and loving person who thought about everyone else before himself. He was there when you needed him. He listened when you had stuff you just needed to tell someone. He cared for you. He loved you with a lot of passion. And Stefan supported you no matter what. Elena was very lucky to have him as a boyfriend.

Finally, they made a stop outside on the steps of the front entrance. They were holding hands while watching other seniors run off to their friends and family. It was such a happy sight.

Suddenly Stefan let go of Elena's hand. Elena shot him a curious look at him, frowning at the loss of hand contact. "Something wrong?"

"Elena, I need to tell you something."

"Me too. You can go first."

Stefan took a deep breath and let it out, closing his eyes. "I'm breaking up with you."

Elena sprang from her spot on the steps. "What?"

The two of them had been dating since junior year. They've had a lot of curve balls thrown at them, but their love proved its worth making a homerun hit with every pitch. Now, on their graduation day, Stefan wanted to break up with her. It seemed unreal.

"We're going to be far away. Plus, I don't think we'll last that long. It's better we break up now before it gets too messy," Stefan explained, but Elena knew that wasn't the real reason.

"Real reason?"

Stefan sighed heavily. "There's too much drama in your life. I'm tired of being caught up in it. I think I should finally break off from it. Goodbye Elena."

The words tore Elena's heart apart, but a Gilbert doesn't show emotion. So, Elena held in her tears and heartbreak when her aunt and Alaric asked where Stefan had gone. Elena fought the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes as she told them he broke up with her.

Jenna, Ric, and Jeremy were thrilled at the news. They never liked Stefan; they thought he was the one responsible for all the deaths in Mystic Falls. At the celebration dinner she didn't have any happiness in her. Elena just twirled the straw in her alcoholic drink that she hadn't taken one sip from. Her aunt and Alaric chattered and exclaimed with excitement about more of Jeremy's achievements, not caring that Elena looked so depressed right now.

Back at home Elena took a long warm shower to clear her head. But all Elena could think about was Stefan. She slid down against the shower wall holding her knees to her chest. Silent cries escaped her as the water from the shower poured down on her.

In her warm comfy Elena cried for hours and hours. Everything that reminded her of Stefan she put in an old shoe box. Pictures, presents, CDs, movies, and letters all went into that box. Taking a Sharpie out, Elena wrote on the top: Open when the time comes.

She hid it far in the back underneath her bed to make sure no one could find it. Back on her bed Elena lied on her side. Rubbing her flat stomach, Elena whispered to the only thing that mattered in her life right now. "It's alright, baby. We're going to be okay."
