❝At times she was strange and dangerous, but mostly she was sweet and scared and harmless.❞

THE NEXT DAY, she thought that day would be running normally. But, of course not. Things are getting weird since they read the book. Especially after what happened to her last night. Cassandra has already made a promise to see Deaton today to listen to his explanation about the Black Hound. She was a little anxious to know that she's not just a huntress. She kept wondering if Allison knows everything or not because of the notes she left behind. Cassandra felt Allison already know all about her long before the creature began to appear. But why didn't she tell her? Is her memory also locked?
"So while introducing the African Cane Toad, sounded like a good way to deal with Australia's infestation of the Grey-backed beetle," Mrs. Finch explained.
Cassandra sat next to Theo, trying to focus on Mrs. Finch. But she couldn't do it because she was disturbed by him. He nudged her and nodded his head towards Sydney. She looked at her and noticed that Sydney was pulling at her hair. And it doesn't look normal.
"Unfortunately, the toad also decided to eat everything else in sight." Mrs. Finch continued.
Cassandra immediately pulled out her phone and sent a message to Lydia since she was sitting behind Sydney. But she noticed Lydia had sent a message first.
'Chimera?'
Cassandra quickly typed 'Look at her hair.'
"And everything that tried to eat the toad, from crocodiles to household pets, quickly died from the poison they secreted."
Lydia slightly turned back to see Cassandra. She was still looking at Sydney and Sydney still scratching her head.
"A perfect example of an invasive species. One-hundred and two toads introduced in 1935 became 1.5 billion by 2010. Once an invasive species is introduces, everything changes."
When Sydney finished scratching her head and brought down her hand, that's when the three of them saw clumps of her hair in it. Cassandra could say she was confused until she finally stood up from her seat and placed the drop form on the desk.
"Wise decision, Sydney." Mrs. Finch commented.
Although they have no blood ties, but sometimes what they both think is always the same. Lydia and Cassandra stood up and quickly followed Sydney. Theo hasn't had the time to stop her since she was already walking to the front of the class.
"You both know it's for the best." Mrs. Finch told them.
The both girls ignored her and walked out of class. They walked through the empty hallway, it was very quiet only the sound of their shoes could be heard. They headed to the guidance room and found Sydney sitting in there. Both of them quickly entered the room and approached her.
"I'm just waiting for your mother. I mean Mrs. Martin." She said.
"Are you okay?" Lydia asked.
Sydney brought down her hand as she held clumps of hair, "Does this look okay to you?"
"Do you have a disease? Or something?" Cassandra asked back to her.
She shook her head, "It's stress. This has happened for three years. I've tried medication, acupuncture, hypnosis but nothing worked."
"Years?" Lydia questioned in disbelief. "Maybe you shouldn't take the hardest class in school."
"Can we see? Maybe we can help cover it up?" Cassandra offered.
