"Girls, can you come here for a moment?" Sam, our manger yelled down the corridor. We all walked out of the recording studio and down the corridor to see Sam stood with a member of EMI Records stood next to him. Sam was smiling at us, as we looked at him in confusion.
I was in a girl band. There was four of us in total. I (Jenny) was the youngest at seventeen, whilst Charlotte was the oldest at nineteen. Then there was Leigh - Anne and Parisa who were both eighteen.
I had wanted to sing since I was about ten. I was offered a scholarship to Sylvia Young Theatre School, and took the place, even if I had to travel two hours to school every day. However, I didn't mind, it was my passion and what I wanted to do.
Unfortunately, whilst I was there, there was rarely any auditions suitable for me. I had a very unique voice, only suited for recording for the auditions I was being given. I wanted to be the one everyone knew, not the voice in which someone else would claim as theirs. Although, whenever I was at home, I would put up covers on YouTube of my singing and that's how I found Parisa. We met up a few weeks after I found her on YouTube and we started a band. We knew there and then that it was what we both wanted to do and our voices fitted perfectly. Then, through a friend of a friend of Parisa's we found Leigh - Anne. It was like fate. Leigh - Anne was already signed to a record label, but her solo career had barely taken off. She had always wanted that same dream, but from the moment we met and placed down some vocals, we knew this was it. Then, out of luck, Charlotte came across one of our covers on YouTube and asked to meet up with us. We knew we needed another member, but had never really found one that suited our vocals. Then, after we met up with Charlotte, we knew we had what Leigh - Anne's manager had been looking for.
We named our group Wavelength and started recording an album in March 2013 in LA, with Leigh - Anne's record label. We knew fame wouldn't be instant, but it led us up to now, stood in front of a management member from EMI Records.
"Girls, this is Adam Kellen. He's here to consider signing you. This is a big opportunity girls, make the most of it," Sam said and we all smiled at him in excitement, before going into the vocal booth. We had wrote our first original song in March and it was called 'First Glances'. We walked into the vocal booth, laying down our vocals whilst Sam and Adam stood outside listening. It was nerve wracking and exciting at the same time and we couldn't help but get so into our singing.
"On New Year's Eve, I saw you the first time. Hard to believe, love hit me at midnight. And hard to see until the fireworks lit up the sky... I remember January, February, March, April May. Been thinking about you boy, every single day. Burned by your flame, yeah, you blew me away. I pray..." Parisa sang, which was the first verse. As she belted out the lyrics in her soulful voice, I couldn't help look at Leigh who was smiling away.
As the song finished, we placed the headphones back on the shelf and walked out of the vocal booth. Then, Parisa squealed.
"What's up?" Leigh asked, as Parisa ran out of the the studio to the front gates.
"Brad!" she yelled, wrapping her arms around him.
"Hey, Parisa!" he said, in what sounded to be a Birmingham accent. We all followed, after watching from the window.
"Girls, come over here!" Parisa demanded and we walked up to her, who was stood with the four other boys, around our age.
"Brad, this is Leigh, Charlotte and Jenny." The girls all waved, but I stood and smiled. He smiled back, looking deep into each other's eyes. Brad's were mesmerising. Nothing that I had seen before. Then, Brad looked away, introducing his three friends, James, Tristan and Connor. James was the oldest and by far the tallest. Tristan looked younger than his age, his right blonde hair glowing in the sun. Then there was Connor, the youngest and easily the cutest. We said our 'hello's', before Parisa asked what Brad was doing at the studio we had rehearsed at for the last few months.
"I guess I could ask you the same thing!" he said, placing a guitar against the wall, "well, our manager is trying to get my band signed. We're The Vamps."
"You're in a band-"
"Parisa, don't you realise what's going on?" Charlotte butted in.
"What?" Parisa replied, confused.
"This is the band we're up against!" Parisa's excitement died down and she dipped her head.
"Ah," she said, "well, I'm so glad to see you again Brad."
Then, without another word, she walk back into the room where Sam was waiting.
"Girls, where have you been?"
"Sorry, I was erm-"
"Anyway, I'm sorry about that Adam. Can I get them to sing something else for you?"
"You have wasted enough time as it is! I have another band to see yet!"
"Please take us into consideration!" Leigh exclaimed, knowing this was her last chance.
As Adam started to walk towards the other band in the room, he turned back to Sam.
"Actually," he said, "I have a band touring the UK in the next few weeks. I know both bands are brilliant," I smiled at him as he continued, "so, why don't I put you both down as support acts?"
"That's brilliant, thank you so much!" Sam said and me and the girls started to jump around the room with excitement. I look over at the other band, who shook Adam's hand before Parisa ran up to them, hugging each of them.
As Adam and Sam left, leaving the eight of us in the studio, we decided to get to know each other better.
We all followed each other of twitter before tweeting pictures of us together. Our fans were going mental seeing that we were together. Surprisingly, for a band with over one hundred thousand followers, I had never heard of The Vamps.
"So, Parisa, how do you know Brad?" Leigh said.
"We went to the BRIT school together, oh the good old times," she said, as Brad laughed. His laugh was so young, but ridiculously cute. It turned out that me and Brad had rather similar personalities and soon, we were taking selfies and posting them on Instagram.
As the day went by, we all became friends and some taking a like to another more than first expected.
As Charlotte went to make some tea, I followed her to the kitchen.
"I see you're taking a liking to Connor," I said and she blushed.
"No! What gave you that idea?" she replied, panicking.
"Calm down, I won't say anything," I said, taking a strawberry to eat, winking at her.
Then, as we sat down at the table in the studio, we all picked up a mug full of tea. I was sat next to Brad and Tristan. I tried to make conversation with both, but I really wasn't good with new people, unless I had consumed alcohol. I wasn't one for liquor to be honest, but it was a way to make me speak, which was usually a good thing. As time went on, everyone was in deep conversation but yet I had barely spoken. I was a little disheartened that nobody had made much of an effort to speak to me apart from Tristan. After a while, I got up from my seat, walking up the stairs to the top of the studio, to a huge window looking out over London, thinking no one would notice I had gone.
My eyebrows rose of their own accord and I stepped away from the window, taking in the sight, since we were rarely allowed up here. The room itself was furnished simply, and although there were a few stray articles of clothing around I could see the feminine touches: a vase of flowers on a table, and a selection of magazines for me and the girls to choose from for our next interview.
"Amazing view, huh?" a familiar voice said, with a thick Brummie accent.
I smiled, wandering around the room, picking up some odds and ends to look at, before finally taking a seat on the white leather sofa.
"Stunning," I replied, smirking, placing my right leg over my left. Brad walked over to the sofa and sat down next to me.
Our eyes met and he smiled.
