We left the meeting, most of the others full of joy over the news. It had already been announced on forms of social media and I just tweeted a small message out to say thank you for the support.
That night, we all headed back home to see our families and celebrate, especially since we had a week off before recording started. Since both bands had made it onto the label, we were asked to record a song together.
As the days went by, I had no contact with Brad or Tris, which was odd for both. Maybe it was for the better, but who was to know?
I starting penning some material and adding a little guitar to it. When I had initially sat down, I hadn't a clue where to start with writing the song. Then, after writing one line, I found myself having finished a whole song in the space of two hours. I named the song "Mistaken Lies." One of my favourite lines from the song was:
"If only I wasn't drowning, maybe we could have saved, everything we had now, but it's a little late."
If only I was to know that in years to come, this song was to help kick-start our career and help me to achieve my life-long dream.
As our week off finished, I found myself packing for two weeks in London, at a studio for recording. For once, I wasn't the last one there and started show Sam, Parisa and Charlotte my track. Surprisingly, they loved it, and it was shown straight to the label. A few days later, we recorded the song and it was completed for the album in two weeks. "Mistaken Lies" was our first finished song. The label said it was "the one." I cried receiving such amazing feedback for the song I'd written in two hours.
We'd recorded about four songs by the end of the two weeks but still had a long way to go. Only my song had officially made it to the album at the time because the other three had come from other songwriters and we still had more to write and record, helping us to find our "vibe."
The girls and I had a huge hug at the end of the two weeks, congratulating me for the song.
"It's amazing! I'm so proud of you," Leigh said. I smiled at her, gleefully.
The other girls headed back to the hotel and packed their bags to head off home, whilst I stayed to pen some more songs for the album. I'd been writing for a couple of years now so I knew vaguely what I was doing.
"Hey, you OK?" a familiar voice said from behind me.
"Hey!" I said, getting up from my seat.
It was Brad.
"I've heard your song, it's so good, Jenny. You're so talented." I hugged him and pulled away. We looked blankly at each other for a few seconds. It was strange to go from being a huge part of his life to nothing, which was all my fault. I wanted to go back to what we had, but nothing was to be the same anymore. "I'd have to say, I particularly like the line that says, "I wish we could go back to where we started, if only I knew how.""
I exhaled deeply and looked down, pulling my ponytail tighter.
"Look, Brad. I hope you don't mind us releasing this song. i doubt many people will know its about you and Tris. No one really knew, so I was hoping you'd let me release it?"
"Sure. Don't let me stop you!"
"Thank you!" I blushed.
We went to Starbucks just a little from the studio and chatted for a while. Some fans saw us but seemed a little apprehensive to come over to talk to us, especially since it was Brad and I. They took photos of us and we laughed, encouraging them to come and talk to us.
