As soon as I get out of the car, I see an open gate in which a man and a horse stand. I walk over to them to see what I am supposed to do. As I walk up, the man turns around, and I'd have to say, he was pretty cute, he had think, black hair, a perfect jawline, and he looked to be a few years older than me.
"Stop it, Natalie" I think to myself. I'm not here to find a summer love. Boys were the last thing on my mind right now.
Just then he said "Hi, you must be Natalie. I'm Justin and welcome to Moorland Stables! My father, Thomas, and I run these stables. Aren't they fantastic?"
I nod my head and say "They're beautiful."
He nods and says "Right now things are a bit hectic though, a nasty boss from the big coperation G.E.D, Mr. Kembell, is doing everything he can to evict us and tear down the stable to be able to build condos here. We're still trying to figure out what we can do to stop him, but he's more slippery than an eel."
He than pauses for a moment and says "But forget that, your new here and I'm not going to spoil your summer!"
I say "Well my parents already spoiled it, your fine."
He lets out a small chuckle and says "Here is your room key, where you'll be staying this summer. It's a building a little left from here, I'm sure you'll find it. Come back to me once you've unpacked and such."
I take the key and say "Sure. I'll be back soon."
I then take my bags to my room and unpack everything, only to see that I had a missed call from my mother. I wanted to know if Juno was alright, don't get me wrong, but, part of me was scared to find out. So, I threw my phone on the bed and headed out to meet Justin.
When I get back, he pulls the horse closer to him and says "This is Jewel, she will be your horse this summer. Do you know how to ride?"
I nod my head and say "Yes, I do."
Jewel was beautiful. She had a dark black mane, and the whitest coat I'd ever seen. It's almost as if Jewel had a distinctive glow to her. She seemed a bit... Magical. Actually, this whole island had a somewhat magical feel to it. "Oh stop it." I think to myself. What am I, 10? Just because I've never heard of this place doesn't mean it's crawling with witches and wolves.
Lost in thought, I then see Justin smile gently and says "Great! Maybe you two should go for a short ride to get to know each other. Talk to Jenna, while your at it, she may be able to show you around."
"Sure." I say, smiling back at him.
I walk over to Jewel, and pet her nose. She was a beautiful horse. When I made eye contact with her, I felt something, I didn't know what it was, but it felt like a connection of some sort. I had never felt anything like that with Juno.
I mount Jewel and trot out of the stables. Who even is Jenna? I thought. I really should have asked him. I guess I'll just have to take my chances. So, I ride over to a girl with light blonde hair in a ponytail, and say "Are you Jenna by any chance?"
She smiles and says "Yes! Are you Natalie?"
I nod.
She then looks to me, then at Jewel, and smiles greatly. She then says "Well, well, I can tell that you and Jewel will make a good team. You two are going to accomplish great things. Mark my word!"
