The next week lingered on. I had told my friends about me leaving for summer, and believe me, they weren't happy about it. Layla begged that I stay until after Saturday, she said the dance team needed me for nationals. I wish I could compete, I really do, but what was I supposed to do? My parents already booked the flight. They couldn't wait to get rid of me. Juno, however, had been acting strange, maybe he knew I was leaving, I've always had a special bond with horses.
I woke up at 4:30 am on Saturday morning. I got dressed, curled my rose red hair and hoped for the best. All my clothes were already packed. I was just about ready to leave, only one more thing I had to do: say goodbye to Juno. This was going to be difficult for the both of us. I have had Juno since I was six, he always comforted me when I was sad. But enough of that. I wasn't going to cry. "It's just for the summer..." I told myself.
I walked into the stable as I normally would, only to find a sick Juno. My parents and the owner of the boarding stable were talking to a vet.
"What is it?" I say "What's wrong with him?"
"We aren't quite sure yet." The vet steps in. "We are working to the best of our abilities and will notify your parents as soon as possible."
I just nod my head, and walk to the car. I already lost Noella, I absolutely can't lose Juno. I can't. I get in the car as we drive to the airport, the car remaining silent the whole drive.
We finally got to the airport, my father drove up to the gate my plane would soon be at. Gate 23 It read. My mother and father said goodbye, and told me Juno would be fine, they told me he was a strong horse, but I had a gut feeling that they were wrong.
I boarded the plane, put my earbuds in, and listened to music. I guess I must have drifted off, because the next thing I know, I wake up to a voice on the loudspeaker saying we landed, and I prepared myself for this little island. I take a taxi to where I am supposed to go. When I finally get there, I see a sign that reads "Moorland Stable." This is where I was going. I hoped for the best.
