October fourteenth, 5:37 P.M. Thursday, third day of being kidnapped.
Maggie woke up from sleeping, scanning the basement for Connor again, but there was no sign of him anywhere. She was really hungry; she hadn't eaten anything since the afternoon she was kidnapped. She tried getting up off the bed, but didn't have enough strength to even sit up. She was handcuffed again, anyway.
Connor came home and walked into the basement like he usually did, but this time he had a woman that was about twenty-one following him. Who also looked plump; she must've been at least seven months pregnant.
"Maggie! Sit up, girl, don't be rude and just lie there with a guest in the house!" Connor scolded her.
The woman asked Connor, "Who is she, babe?"
Connor replied, "My daughter. Her name is Maggie, but just ignore her, if you must."
Maggie had a sad look on her face, feeling as if she was being punished for taking a piece of food off the dinner table. She tried not to cry, but cried anyways. She couldn't help it. She hadn't done anything, but was being scolded all the same.
Connor walked over to her and grabbed her hair to make her sit up. Then he held her still and whispered into her ear, "That woman is named Sophie, if you ask for anything or do anything stupid to make her leave, you'll be punished for life, child."
Maggie moved away from him as fast as she could and went into the corner of the bed, shaking in fear of Connor. It seemed that lately, everything she did was fueled by fear.
Connor gave her a serious glare and walked over to Sophie, taking her upstairs for a while.
Maggie lay her head down on her knees and cried, feeling weak and powerless against Connor, unable to do anything against him without him threatening her.
At around nine that night, Sophie left the house and Connor kissed her goodbye.
He came into the basement and walked over to Maggie's bed.
She looked up and saw Connor standing there. She darted for the corner of the bed. "Connor, please don't hurt me please, I beg of you, please don't!" Maggie begged.
Connor sat on the bed and said to her, "I won't hurt you; come here it's okay. Don't be afraid, Maggie."
Maggie didn't move, she was scared and shaking. She wasn't sure she could trust him, had no idea when he was telling the truth.
"Maggie, calm down, it's okay. Nothing is going to happen to you, I promise." Connor said calmly.
Maggie slowly crawled to him, and he put her in his lap and held her gently.
"Maggie, listen to me. I know this may sound sudden, but me and Sophie are going to have a baby soon." Connor says in a calming but serious voice.
Maggie jolted away from him and hid in the corner of the bed again. "No please, this can't be true, it can't," she cried. She wasn't sure why she was so strongly affected by this. It wasn't like she and Connor were together or anything, she didn't have any real claim to him.
Connor came over to her and said, "Shh, calm down. But yes, it's true, Maggie, and that means you're going to be treated different when Sophie is around. And when the baby comes I'll be busy with him or her, so if you don't get attention then you know why. But never forget this, I will always love you as a daughter and may treat you different, but you're very special to me and I can't let you go without you knowing this." Connor hugged her tightly and kissed her head to calm her down, but it just made her feel worse.
She rested her head on Connor's chest and cried into his shirt.
Conner looked at her, knowing why she's so upset, and he wishes she was his daughter. He wouldn't treat her so harshly. He kept hugging her for a long time and took her face into his hands and said to her, "I know you have feelings for me, and I know it's hard for you to share my love, but you'll still get attention from me, but you'll also be treated like you were tonight. Do you want to know why?"
Maggie nodded to answer his question.
"Well the reason why is that I told Sophie about you and she thinks that you're a spoiled brat and she wants me to get rid of you." Connor said.
Maggie lowered her head and cried even more, but in Connor's hands. "She wants you to get rid of me, Connor. She wants me dead?" She asked sadly.
Connor nodded, but replied back to her. "But I'm not going to get rid of you. I know ending a young one's life is wrong; if I'd had to kill you as a baby, I wouldn't have been able to do it because then I would know I was ending a beautiful child's chance for survival. I'm not going to get rid of you, at least not yet."
It was that recurring 'yet' that did it.
Maggie pulled away from his hands and pulled her pocket knife out and slit her wrists repeatedly. She'd never done it before, but she'd read about how some people let out their emotional pain through doing so. She figured she had more than enough reason to.
"Stop that!" Connor said, grabbing the knife and closing it and putting away in his pocket. "Why are you doing that, Maggie? Are you really that upset, 'cause you really shouldn't care since you aren't really my daughter. You know that, don't you?"
Maggie replied sadly, "I do care, 'cause I don't want you to end my life, so I might as well end my own life now."
Connor wrapped his arms around her and said to her, "I can't end your life knowing that you will suffer, cry, scream or anything that'll upset you. I just can't, Maggie, I just can't."
Maggie felt safe with him now, knowing that he couldn't kill her at this point.
