Chapter Three

Kaydence

It's been a few weeks since classes started and I feel like I'm falling behind already. Working, going to class, managing homework, and trying to make time for Tai isn't as easy as I thought it would be. My work shifts are all over the place so that really doesn't help. I just try to take it one day at a time.

Today is one of my workdays and I'm knocking out a 6 hour shift.

"Kate, your grande Vanilla Bean frappachino is ready," I call and set the drink down.

"Thanks," the young girl takes the drink.

"You're welcome," I smile.

I begin to wipe the counter down and one of the shift managers, Amy, walks over to me.

"Kaydence, how's it going?"

"So far so good," I turn to her.

"So, it's been a little slow the last few hours. You wanna leave early?"

I pull out my phone and see it's about 6 and I was supposed to stay until 7.

"Yeah, that's cool," I sigh.

"Great. You can leave at 6."

She turns and walks away. I really don't want to leave early because I need as many hours as I can get. Now that I gotta pay bills I need my money. I guess one hour isn't so bad. I clean up my area and restock cups and lids. By the time I finish it's about 6 and I clock out to go home.

"Thanks for all your hard work today. See you later," Amy smiles.

"No problem. See you later," I wave.

I get in my car and make my way to the campus.

As I walk through the door of our apartment, I see Emory lying on the couch watching TV.

"Girl you smell like a fresh cup of coffee," she laughs.

"I'm so sick of coffee. I smell like I showered in it," I close the front door. "What are you doing?"

"Nothing, just watching a movie. You going to Tai's tonight?"

"I want to, but I got homework due tomorrow. I need to stay here and get it done."

She nods and I head into my room. I take off my coffee reeked clothes and jump in the shower. Once I get out, I call Tai to see what he's doing.

"Hey love," he answers.

"Hey," I smile. "What are you doing?"

"Nothin'. Sittin' here whoopin' Chris ass in 2K."

"Nigga, you got lucky. I'ma make a comeback though!" I hear Chris in the background then laugh.

"Anyway," Tai continues, "You comin' ova tonight?"

"No, I can't. I got homework I have to get done. It's due tomorrow."

"Cool. Matta fact, I got some shit I needa finish to."

"Get off that game and go do your work Tai Anthony Alsina."

"Chill wit all'at Kaydence."

I laugh, "Aww, now you mad."

"Yeah you gon be mad when I hang up on you."

"I wish you would. See the next time you get some from me."

"Now why you gotta go there?"
