Chapter One

I awake as sunlight pours into my room. It's a beautiful, warm summer morning and I'm ready to get the day started. School starts in a few weeks and I'll be moving back on campus. Emory and I have already chosen each other as roommates and I can't wait to see her. Although I'm sad that the summer is ending, it's been great. Aside from spending majority of my time with Tai, I got a job at Starbucks and I finally got a car! My dad found me a gently used grey 2005 Honda Accord. I feel more independent than ever now that I have a job and a car.

Today is one of my few days off, so I'm going over to Tai's apartment. I've been working damn near full-time hours since I started. I'm trying to make all the money I can before school starts. Before I can get out of bed, I get a text.

My Love: Good morning baby. U comin over today?

- Good morning sweetie. Yeah I am. I'm about to get dress now.

My Love: Okay baby

I get up and pick out something to wear. I decide on a pair of shirts and a cute pink tank top and go to the bathroom to get ready. Once I'm dressed, I get in my car and head over to Tai's apartment. I'm so happy to finally have my own car. I was getting tired of being stuck in the house and having to get a ride everywhere I go. I ride about an hour and pull up outside Tai's apartment. I go up the stairs and knock on the door.

"Comin'," I hear a voice say.

I can't tell if it's Chris or Tai because they're too far away. A few seconds later, Tai answers the door.

"Wassup?" He smiles.

"Hey," I walk in and hug him then kiss his lips.

I follow behind Tai into the kitchen to see that he's cooking.

"What you making?" I look over his shoulder to see.

"Breakfast. A nigga hungry. You want some?"

"Yeah, I'm starving."

We hear the locks click and in walks Chris.

"Wassup y'all?" He takes his keys out the door.

"Hey," I wave.

"Wassup, long night, huh?" Tai looks up.

"Man, you saw shorty right? She wore me out!" Chris brags. "What you in here makin'?" Chris walks into the kitchen.

"Breakfast nigga. For me and my girl," Tai says.

"Lemme get some."

"The fuck I look like? Yo maid?"

"Nigga you ain't shit. It's cool though. A nigga 'bout to hit up Waffle House."

Chris disappears into his room and soon after leaves back out. Tai is making waffles, eggs, and sausage for us. When he's done cooking, we sit at the bar and eat.

"So you ready for classes to start back?" I look at Tai.

"Hell nah, but I'm glad I'm almost done though."

"What you plan on doing after graduation?"

"I'm hopin' ta have this music poppin' by then, but if not I'ma see if I can get a job workin' at a label or somethin'."

"That's cool. You have to promise me that once you blow up you won't forget about me."

A part of me was joking, but the other part was very serious. I know that when it comes to music there are females who throw themselves at guys and I don't want to go through the whole cheating phase again. I'd rather cut my ties and take my losses.
