For almost a two years you had been begging your mom to let you get a tattoo, you were 19 and an adult but still living at home you had to live by your moms rules, as she liked to put it 'my house, my rules'.
Your mom wasn't against tattoos but you being her only daughter she wanted to keep you 'pure' for as long as possible. Luckily for you though your mom would never go back on a promise no matter what.
A few weeks ago your parents had some friends round for a BBQ and your mom got a little bit tipsy, it was the perfect time for you to ask, and you did and her being as she put it 'a cool and free spirited mom',
She said that you could get a tattoo, normally if she was tipsy and made a promise she would deny any knowledge of it and say there was no proof but knowing how your mom would react after, you had recorded the conversation.
Your birthday was next week and then you would be 20, so you decided that now was the time to ask your mom about getting the tattoo.
You walked into the kitchen and saw your mom cutting up some vegetables, you walked over to her and put your arm around her shoulder and smiled at her.
She looked at you, "yes" she said waiting for you to ask her something, "do you remember the other week when you had a barbecue and you got drunk-" before you could finish she interrupted you "I wasn't drunk I was just mildly tipsy".
"Okay whatever you say mom" you chuckled and removed your arm form her shoulder "so anyway, you made me a promise" she quickly looked away from the cutting board and up at you "I don't remember".
"It's okay I recorded it" you said grinning, you opened up the voice memo app and began playing the audio that finished with you asking her if she was sure that you could get a tattoo and her saying of course multiple times.
"Remember now?" You asked, mentally tapping yourself on the back for remembering to record it. "No but you know that I always keep promises, I'm not happy about this but a promise is a promise".
You squealed and hugged her tightly "thank you, thank you, thank you" you let go of her stepped back a little "so can I get it next week, on my birthday?"
She sighed "yes" you hugged her again and said thank you again before going to your room and texting your best friend to tell her about your mom finally letting you get a tattoo.
*a week later*
You woke up slowly fluttering your eyes open, you laid there coming to terms with life again after being in such a deep sleep, you were daydreaming while looking at your hand that was slightly hanging over the edge of your bed.
All of a sudden you sat bolt up and smiled, how had you forgotten it was your birthday? You thought to yourself. Not only was it your birthday but it was also the day you were getting your tattoo.
Up until today you hadn't been nervous at all but for some reason you could feel butterflies in your stomach. You could smell the sweet smell of pancakes pulling you out of your thoughts.
You pushed the covers off of your body and sleepily made your way down stairs, the cold floor on your feet feeling like you were walking on a thin layer of frost that melted each step you took.
As you entered the living room you were greeted with happy birthdays from your parents and two older brothers. You smiled and said thanks to them.
You sat down on the couch and turned the TV on as your mom handed you a plate of pancakes and syrup, feeling like it was all you were saying you said thank you again.
*a few hours later*
The moment you entered the tattoo shop your butterflies that had subsided earlier came back but this time it was for a different reason.
At the front desk stood a boy about your age maybe 21, he was the best looking guy you had seen in a long time if not in your whole life.
He had a jawline to die for which had you almost in a trance. You walked up to the front desk with your best friend, (y/bf/n) next to you.
"I'm here to get a tattoo" you said and the guy looked up at you and smiled making you melt inside but on the outside you just nervously smiled back.
"What would you like to get?" He asked his voice was deep and manly, which attracted to you to him even more which seemed impossible.
You told him you wanted a ying yang but with a geometric design in it, but you also told him that he could design it how he wanted.
You sat down in the chair ready to get it done and the young man came and sat down next to you.
"So this is what I got" he said holding up a drawing of a ying yang sign that was everything you dreamed of and more.
"It's perfect" you smiled at him and he smiled back, you kept just looking at each other for what seemed like hours, scanning each other's faces, picking up every detail.
But then he looked away and down at your arm, you couldn't let it show but you felt embarrassed as if you were the only one who had been staring.
Your heart was beating fast the realisation that you were getting a tattoo kicked in and that mixed with the guy next to you was deadly,
Even though you had just met him you could tell he was your own personal poison.
He looked back up at you just before he put the needle to your skin letting it mark your body forever.
"I forgot to say, my names Ethan" he flashed you the smile that you had been dying to see again ever since he first said hello at the desk.
You didn't quite know how to reply because he already knew your name so you just softly smiled and he looked back down.
You had always heard tattoos were really painful and now that you were having it done it really wasn't that bad,
but you had put it down to the amount of adrenaline rushing through your veins.
"Okay we're done" he spoke for the first time in about an hour. You looked at your tattoo and couldn't stop smiling it looked so much better than what it had when he first showed you the sketch.
"Thank you so much, I love it" by impulse you couldn't stop yourself from hugging him.
Reality swept through you and you suddenly went to pull away and began to ramble apologies.
before you could finish the sentence 'oh my god' he had pulled you back into the hug.
You both pulled away after a few minutes and he was smiling at you.
He rubbed to back of his neck and handed you the sketch of your tattoo "um thanks" you said almost as if asking a question.
*a lil bit later*
You changed out of your clothes and into your pyjamas as you picked up your jeans you saw the sketch in you pocket.
You took it out and opened it up just below the drawing was some writing that hadn't been there before,
You read it to yourself self consciously, it was a phone number signed 'Ethan call me x'
