I opened my eyes and saw the guy by my side. He put his hand on my shoulder.
"Find me when you can, I can help you understand." Then he left and I closed my eyes. When I opened them again Derek was sleeping in the chair, his clothes rumpled and a coffee cup by him. I looked down at my stomach and found it covered entirely. I touched my neck and felt that covered too. The clock on the far end of the wall above the door read three thirty in the morning. I tried to sit up,only to succeed with more pain. I looked around at the machines I was hooked up to. I saw the morpheme and pressed that button, welcoming the numbness and falling asleep again.
I finally felt my eyes open, though I have no idea why because they felt like weights. I blinked against the sunlight and saw that Derek was by my side again, this time with a new coffee cup. I turned my head towards him and immediately regretted it. Pain shot up my neck and I blinked away tears. Derek sat up straight and I managed an I'm fine.
"What where you doing in an alley, Mary? What happened?" His voice was frantic, looking for answers.
"I was trying to get back from studying, I was taking a shortcut when this group of guys surrounded me." I was gasping for breath, trying to focus on anything," please, don't let me relive that." I was sobbing now, Derek grabbed my hand and tried to comfort me.
"I'll tell the others, there are all here." With that he got up and left. I brought my hand up to my neck again and tentatively touched the bandaged. One of Derek's coworkers came in a few minutes later.
"Mary, I'm glad your safe." She went and hugged me and I cried out. "Oh! I forgot, I'm sorry!"
    "How bad is it?"
"I few bruised ribs, bruises all over, two cuts, the loss of blood, and the stab wound. Someone brought you in and stayed until you were stable. Derek started questioning him but he gave up when-when-." Kate talked on super fast I could barely catch up but then broke off. I stared at her for a moment, grasping what she said.
    "He didn't do it."
"Are you sure? Even though he brought you in, he could have."
"He didn't, he saved my life. I was bleeding out when Derek called, I started to go unconscious and he showed up." I though back to the night before and shivered.
"Mary, what happened?" Her voice was so full of worry, she sounded like a mother. Her dyed blonde hair curled down past her shoulders, her glasses were pushed up to her nose, and she was dressed in a funky dress that suited her. She kept on looking at me, waiting for an answer, so I told her. I told her everything, minus the guy giving me his blood. She listened to every word with a horrified expression.
"There was blood everywhere. I better let you sleep, Derek will come back soon." With that, she left.
