(Kendal's pov)
The next morning I woke up to the strong scent of antique floral perfume and fell under a violent coughing fit. Then I hear: "Wakey wakey my pride and joy! My new superstar daughter!" she exclaims in that thick Jersey accent of hers.
I rolled over, covering my nose and mouth trying to subdue the scent of her perfume, and grabbed my glasses off my nightstand. "Mom?" I murmured, my groggy voice catching me slightly off guard. As soon as my eyes adjusted to the light, I smiled at her familiar features and pulled her into a hug. "I missed you!"
"I missed you too, hon! Now come on downstairs so we can get down to business," she gave me a big kiss on the cheek and hurried downstairs herself, gaudy bracelets crashing together all the way there. I sighed in contempt and decided brushing my hair was good enough before heading to the kitchen.
I was greeted instantly. "Kendal! Your mom is freaking awesome! She made us pancakes- with chocolate chips!" Sam bounced in her chair as she continued obsessing about the only chocolate she's probably seen in weeks.
"Yeah, they're really delicious, Mrs. Alfonso." I yelped before turning around to see it was Tony who gave the complement. His eyes widened in alarm, mid munch. "What?"
"You scared me!"
He chuckled as the fact that there was no actual problem had registered and continued eating his meal.
I suddenly regret not doing more to make my morning-look more attractive. Crossing my arms over my bra-less chest clad in only a white t-shirt, I study him. He smiles a boyish grin as my mom plops more pancakes on his plate. His hair is gelled back, like usually, setting the tone for his crisp business attire.
I feel my body warming up and decide my little study session is over. I quickly turn away from him and grab myself a plate of my mom's scrumptious pancakes.
"Um, so mom, did you talk to Tony a little more about the contract?" I ask as I slather my breakfast with lukewarm syrup.
"Yes I did. I saw no loopholes in it that would make it a scam. I also got the chance to speak with Tony's father, owner of Victoria's Secret and I believe this is pretty legit! I really think you should do this, hon, it's a great stepping stone on the way to a successful career in this business!"
I chuckle at her enthusiasm. "But modeling has nothing to do with dance!"
"No, but you will gain the connections necessary to even step foot into that world," Tony adds in smugly, finishing with a know-it-all smirk.
"Listen, buster, you have no idea what I'm cable of and what I will be able to accomplish!" I fume, suddenly feeling the urge to be defensive.
"Oooo, so Kendal does have a voice!" Jasmine comments. I return my attention to Tony, who still has that smirk plastered to his face.
"Well, neither do you," he than retorts. I groan in frustration when I have nothing to say back.
"Kendal, I didn't get a chance to say this yesterday because you took them off before we went out last night, but I love your glasses!" Mia says, probably oblivious to my irritation with Tony.
"R-Really?"
"Yeah! They're totally rad!" she squeals, admiring them up close.
"I-Is that good?" I ask, skeptical towards the adjective.
"Totally!" she confirms. I smile to myself as the small complement ups my self esteem.
"Okay, girls, I have to go now," Tony frowns at his phone as he heads towards the door. "Duty calls." I feel a wave of disappointment, and then anger for allowing myself to feel it.
